Where I am coming from, is a guy who has owned all sorts of makes and models. I am primarily concerned with the lines on the car all flowing well with one another and the wing on the back of the Evo is really starting to bother me. I didn't mind it at first but now it just seems to stick out like a sore thumb. The lines on the car are so smooth as they run together from the front all the way back to the decklid and then it just looks like you have these two tumors protruding off each side of the trunk with a long carbon fiber coffee table in between them.

Yes...I know it is functional (I don't doubt that at all), but other wings can be made to be just as functional but maintain a slightly or even drastictally lower profile style.

I have a good friend who owns an online parts store and works directly with the company that designs the body kits for the Saleen Mustangs to design body kits for the Corvette and several other GM cars. He said he may be interested in having them do something for the Evo if he thought there was enough interest in doing so. If we went this route, we would take feedback from actual Evo owners and get a pool of what everyone would like to see and then try to formulate all of that into a good lookin wing that goes with the lines of the car.

This thread is not for those guys who want to say, "An Evo without the wing isn't an Evo." We all know perfectly well how you feel and really don't need to hear it here. If you like the wing, this thread HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU so please refrain from involving yourself--unless you are just really intent on coming off as a *****.

So for those who are interested, please let me know. This by NO MEANS means anything will happen because if their isn't enough interest or they can't seem to come up with something that looks right, then it won't happen. Just let me know. I am going to be showing this actual thread to the body kit makers and they distributor so they can see the interest or lack there of.

I would be very interested in a lower profile spoiler. I'm also into keeping the lines flowing together. My biggest request would be for it to use the stock mounting holes.

 

Let the requests begin. I can't promise that every request will be met, but stock mounting holes is definitely needed. Would you have a problem with using the stock holes along with drilling a center hole for more stability?

 

I think the Kaminari Lancer kit wing would look nice on an evo. Maybe someone should photochop it to see. See my profile for what it looks like.

 

I had the same doubts when I bought mine, but concluded the CF wing would help resale in the long run. What about taking the standard OZ wing, and raising that a couple of inches with some properly molded spacers? I don't mean just a couple of blocks, but something that follows the angles at the ends of the OZ spoiler, extending it towards the front of the car slightly. What do you think? There was a company that sold something similar for the WRX.

 

^^Yea that sounds cool too...and I am not getting rid of the CF wing...I will save it for resale but in the meantime while i have the car, I was looking for something different.

 

At first I didn't like the CF spoiler much, but now I am liking the CF spoiler more and more. Still, I would be interested to see what you can come up with. Something nice and simple would be good.

Stock mounting holes would be a MUST for me to buy any spoiler. This would allow me to be able to swap spoilers at a moments notice.

 

Are you aware that the stock spoiler is attatched by an adhesive as well as the bolts? Just curious because I don't know if that adhesive is a must for correct mounting. May make it difficult to swap back and forth.

 

I can't believe I am seeing what I am seeing. I thought everybody bought the CF wing because they liked the way it looked. Personally, I love the way the CF wing looks on he car.
Driving it though was a different story. So I just opted to get the
smaller wing from the dealer. Sure it doesn't look as well, but it doesn't **** me off seeing the CF wing in the rear view window either.

 

As Motor Trend said in one of their articles on the Evo, the wing blocks our view of the lights on top of police cars.

 

ya i used to like the wing, and now its just getting a little on the tacky side for me... i would like something more like the WRX wing or i saw a mazda protege 3(MP3) the other day and i kinda like that wing too

so yes i would DEFINATELY love a lower profile wing other than the oz rally wing - something that stands out... but doesnt stand in the way..
