Here's my Kevlar DIN panel, before attaching gauges, and with SBC-IDIII and Powermeter attached. It sits flush with the molding parting line in the opening, which allows the gauges to not look like they are sticking out real far. I made a test panel with holes cut exactly to the gauges out of ABS, but IMO it did not look as good, so I went with surface mount on the final piece.

 

Second pic with gauges mounted. I used the double sided adhesive used for mounting body side molding, so I do not think they will be coming loose.

 

I'd suggest using kevlar in the door panels, you know.. drivebys

Thanks, not the best pic, but my camera was running out of battery at this point, and I was in a hurry.

 

I used the Eclipse CD8053, and quart QSD 6.5 components in front and PCE 6.5 run coax in the rear.
