This is a tremendous thread...thanks to all the RS owners contributing to it. I'm a bit confused by some of the model year changes, and I've come up with this list of a few changes (other than the normal RS stuff). Can anyone help me to validate this?
2004 - steel roof, no ACD
2005 - Aluminum roof (launched in conjuction with MR), ACD?
2006 - MIVEC, aluminum roof, ACD?
I'm particularly confused about the steel roof in 2004 and whether or not ACD was ever an option, but I've read it was on all US sold Evos in 2005 and 2006. Thanks a lot in advance.

Thank you for the clarification. It's not easy to get the facts since there are some discrepancies in various locations. I appreciate it. Can you also confirm if 05-06 RS models have ACD or did none of them ever have that at all?

BTW, The 04 RS did not come w/ the alum roof as I have been told. The alum roof is noted by the 2 protruding rails on each side of the roof. The RS was fitted w/ the alum roof in 05 (Any worthy RS owner has used a magnet to check)
Also, ACD became standard w/ the 05 as well (If I have my details correct =)
Peace
Thanks MinusPrevious. As you can see from my join date, I'm a longtime Evo fan but haven't been fortunate enough to own one yet. At this point I'm in heavy research mode about these great cars (as I love to do before any significant vehicle purchase) and I want to get my ducks in a row concerning the various trim models of the Evo so that I can make the best decision possible.
I can tell you that the RS model does appeal to me in a big way as I favor cars that are lighter, stiffer, and less feature laden as the basis of my projects. Performance always comes first for me, and obviously the 'less is more' mentality will point at the RS. At this point I think I'm pretty firm on having to get an aluminum roof equipped Evo if I buy one, which of course limits my options to the RS or MR (2005+) models. There are a few other points to consider of course, but that is why I'm conducting my research here...in the hopes of getting all the answers I need.
I sure appreciate your reply, particularly since the steel versus aluminum roof question seems to stump even most active Evo owners. I was under the impression that the aluminum roof only started in the 2005 model year (production technology advancement shared with the MR model) and your comments do back that up. The only real issue that I'm trying to uncover now is whether the MIVEC system is worth the effort to pursue an 2006 RS (or MR) since I am absolutely a fan of power under the curve in my performance cars. Simple logic tells me that it will make a noticeable difference but I'm having a hard time finding real dyno charts or facts to back that up. If you can point me in the right direction, I'd definitely appreciate it.

^^^Ive only owned my RS for 2.5 years but I have tried to learn as much as possible.
You may have seen this WIKI thread on the EVO, if not, its a good read on the history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubi...ncer_Evolution
I'm an older EVO owner for sure & the RS attracted me right off. Regarding MIVEC or not, I would opt for the MIVEC with a bit larger turbo & the benefit of the variable valve timing. (Power potential is significantly higher when modding)
Let us know if you have further questions. Peace, Joe

Thanks again Joe...you and I are definitely on the same page it sounds like (older guys who prize performance and like to do a lot of research, ha!).
I have read the wikipedia link before about Evo's, but I felt it was a bit confusing since all the models are discussed, including those from other global regions. Since I'm primarily only looking for information about the cars sold in the USA I have tried to be more specific about my searches on this forum. I'm sure I'll have 100 more questions so thanks for tolerating me as I gain some more knowledge from you all.

^^^Very nice Bro. Reminds me of mine before the modding process. You already have a jump on me since you've got the JDM type rear
Did you have to mod the rear crash beam?
Peace
