Project 3: Rebuilding the Salvage Evo IX

Here is an Evo that I picked up for my buddy to build. He has been looking for an STI but I think I have him talked into keeping this car, instead. Either way, here is what we have after the first day of work.

The car is a 2006 Evo IX w/SSL and 40k miles. The car looks to be almost completely stock and is super clean. The car looks to have hit a curb and pole on the drivers side.

The damage included:
  • Bumper Cover
  • Left Headlight
  • Dented FMIC
  • Hood
  • Left Fender
  • Left Apron (Dented in from damaged fender)
  • Left Front Lower Control Arm
  • Left Rear Spindle, Caliper, and Rotor
  • Left Rear Quarter Panel
  • Left Sideskirt
  • Both Left Wheels
  • And a cracked windsheild from a stone chip on the way home!
On a good note, the car runs and doesn't have any major damage. As you can see from the list of damaged parts, most of them can be simply removed and replaced. The interior is also very clean and will make a nice car when finished!

Glad to see you bring a wrecked Evo back to life.

I did that to all the cars I owned for almost 10 years (well except for my Evo). Word of advice, get the frame chacked out. It is pricey but you would be suprised how much of a small impact could throw things off.

Yeah, thats a good idea. Once the car is mobile, I will run it to the frame shop to have it checked out. Luckily the frame shop is only about 2 miles away!

The RS is coming along s-l-o-w-l-y!

I decided to take the RS down to school with me to work on it there. I had the frame class do the frame work, so it has been taking a bit longer then usual. Also, they wanted to replace the wrinkled section of the frame horn so that has been holding back the progress. The frame horn should be here this week so hopefully we will get the ball rolling there.

The black car (aka Project 1) has finally been sold to a kid in Southern PA. I had to pretty much give the car away but I needed the money to pay the bills on the new RS.

ok so the black on is sold i see you got that one completed. then the RS is still in the frame shop. And now this car your fixing to fill the void of the RS since projects running slow. LOL from your statement sounds like in school you have a shop class that has all this equipment and your bring your car in as a project car and the class works on it together learning stuff. Sounds like when i went to our local VOTECH and kids bring in there cars for engine builds paint jobs etc

Kinda...

The pictures above are from my shop. The RS was brought to school with me because I was thought it would be cool to have around while I'm not home. Also, I am not going to school for any type of collision work (I'm finishing up my 5th and final year of my second business degree) so I do not get to work on the RS while its here. I am able to check in on it a couple times a week so thats enough for me, I guess.

The black Evo IX in this thread was picked up as another project by myself and my buddy. I am trying to convince him to keep it as its a super nice car with damage that can be simply replaced but he has his heart set on a STI. I am doing my best to turn him away from that! haha
