I'd like to see what the taillights look like blacked out.. What does it take to disassemble the tails? (Are the sealed like the headlamps?)

Just look at the MR Evo that has been posted everywhere. There you will find black tails.

Here was my thinking on this... to fully disassemble the HID system, remove all the metal portions of the unit, heat the headlights, extremely carefully pull them apart, dissemble the internals, sand the chrome housings, carefully paint them with high temp paint, then repeat the process in reverse. It takes me at least 4 hours plus materials. Not just paint but sandpaper, and some special tools to get them apart carefully, solvent to clean the goo off the tools, more goo for the headlights, etc... If you all wouldn't be interested, I'll listen to popular demand and do them for $200 as you all recommended. I'll throw in return shipping via ground. If you want faster you pay more. that's the best I could do. Fair?

SFPRacing,

Have you seen the Lancer WR car?

Will tinting the headlights like in this picture have a very adverse affect on the headlights? Or will it be minimal at most? We do have HIDs.. I really like the black housing/tint combo as shown on the Lancer WR car.

If the evo ever gets to Taiwan this year, I can probably hook you up with those for $300 shipped (from overseas)
but anyway, that'll be later, for now I guess this is your only option if you don't wanna DIY...

EDIT: and since you are gonna do it, why not change the amber cover to the bottom so that it looks JDM?

The black housing has no effect at all on the headlight performance. the bulb portion and outer lens do not get any changes. Just the chrome frame around the bulbs.

This whole thing took me 3 hours, and 10 bucks to do it right. If i were to offer it to other members, i would charge like 50-75 +shipping. Just my .02

yes 300 is very steep. but he can name his price (even if nobody wants it) cuz people are too lazy and scared to get off their asses and do it themselves! wait. If you include overnight shipping and knock the price down then you'll see more hits

Yea I don't know why there is so much heat on the boards lately...probably because people are tired of paying hundreds of $$ for evo stuff. The price is high granted, but its an opportunity cost. I for one am very glad someone is offering this service, and I hope he continues to do so.

^ Agreed.

I'm also glad somebody's offering this kind of service, add to the fact that he LOWERED the price and listened to the potential customers, I've been reading that you get quality with SFP.

I really like the way it looks, but I will never pay $300 for it. I don't want to do the work myself, but that's too much money. For that much, I'd do it myself.

I would pay $150-$200 though.

I see that he lowered the price now. Very nice move and i will be getting mine done soon. My only concern is that they might leak or build up condensation once they are opened up.

Is it me or what, I cant see ****. No pics. I was thinking about blacking out my head lights too. SOme1 on this board did it. If the service isnt outrageous, I'll do it too. 100 shipped is a good deal. hahaha, but im not going to pay anymore than 100 for that. ANd how much is to fog out the tail light?
