Hid problem help

i recently had one of my lights go out after 7 years so i figured i go with 6k's. got to new ones and ask the body shop my car was at getting a new bumper among other parts if they would throw on the new lights since the bumper was gonna be of and they did no problem. well i called them to check the eta of my car and they said that the side that went out wouldnt work with the new bulb. they tried both bulbs on the working side and they both worked. so my question is there a way that certain part in the housing can go out (ballast, etc) or what ever other part are in the housing? wires have never been splised into. please any advice or experiences would help greatly....this is asuming that the body shop is being honest about tring both bulbs in the working side, and it not just one bad bulb

Well it likely is not the problem of the HID but whatever caused the first light to go out in the first place. Possibly a fuse, bad connection, corrosion or a wire that broke out of its sleeve and is grounding out. To help rule that out they could try the ballast on the side that works on the side that doesn't.

Sounds like you bought a cheap HID kit and you'll likely pay 10x what it cost to just get it installed. I would have the body shop make the factory lights work again and then you can install the HID on your own.

Just get your car back and be patient take some time and find what went wrong 9/10 times it tends to be a grounding issue just like mentioned above check all that.

did your car come stock with hids and you put in diff bulbs or it has a plug and play kit?

if its not the ballast, some of these plug and play kits are wired backwards, so another thing you can try is switching the connector around, i have seen this many times when helping out my friends with their kits

stock hids just swapping bulbs....checked fuses and they both work on the good side could the body shop have shorted something out if they tried to switch bulbs without unplugging the batt? so you can just replace the ballast if need be and not need the whole housing
thanks guys

Yes you can replace just the ballast. When I first posted I thought you were saying you bought an HID kit for a non-hid car. If you are handy I would wait until the car gets back (unless insurance is covering this whole trip) take off the bumper and start swapping parts until you get the right side to work at which point you know what part it would be.

I vote for a bad ballast. if not just check the fuse. I highly doubt its the wiring but that wil be the lat thing in this case.

use a volt meter to check voltage at the leads coming off the ballast. if no voltage, check the fuse. if fuse is blown, replace fuse, turn on lights again. if fuse blows immediately, = bad ballast. i just had that exact same problem happen to me after installing my kit from hidextra.com. they replaced the ballast for free (i had only had it for about 6 weeks.)

Ebay.. add it to your signature as a "WTB" ...classifieds etc.. people sell headlights all the time with ballasts attached to it.

Did you swap your ballast first from the other side to make sure thats what it is? No point in buying another one and waiting for it when you not 100% sure thats what it is.
