JDM MR 8 headlights fog question

time to bring this topic back up from years ago, but has ANYBODY successfully installed fogs and got them working, mind you i am evo 8 gsr NONE SSL owner, but as i checked through 2 or so pages of threads no one still has yet either done this or tryed doing it. reason i ask is i uninstalled my headlights today to throw in some new hids and my buddy said lets get the fogs working. so i wanted to research more before i say either yes or no . mind you the JDM MR headlights have that cover in the foglight area

So you bought a set of JDM headlights and you cant figure how to change the plug over? im not getting the situation you are in.

Does your car factory come with Fogs?
Does the new set of lights have the option for fogs?

If so change the plug over to a 5006 and you should be fine. if this is far beyond what your asking then i may have missed in the fine lines what your looking for.

HIDS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM I'VE BEEN ALREADY INSTALLED SOME. the JDM MR headlights do have a hole for a fog light, but there is some sort of cover inside. ONCE AGAIN MY QUESTION IS ( Has anyone installed a custom foglight kit or something similar into those headlights) there has been numerous threads on this with none ssl owners trying to install fogs, just i seen no one has come up with a logical answer. and yes i know you need a switch, a relay , and of course the harness. but has anyone done it yet?

If there is a cover inside, you have managed to come across a stupid rare set of JDM headlights that don't have foglights as well, much like the 2005/2006 GSR headlight assemblies.

For the record, if anyone is having a hard time figure out why their foglight bulb isn't fitting in the JDM housing....USDM foglights are H11 while JDM's are 9006.

post pics of your headlights.... if you have OEM HID's but no fogs ( just a cover) then you don't have JDM MR headlights...

ok I re-read your original post and it seems you are trying to install fogs in the original NON hid housings. That's not possible, those housing don't have a lens, or a bulb base holder for the foglights.
You are saying you HAVE JDM headlights or you THINK you have them?

I DO HAVE HAVE JDM HEADLIGHTS..... honestly cant remember where i bought them from, im thinking z1 performance back when they used to be a vendor on here, but i never ended up buying the HID jdm headlights. they came back in the day with and without hid option it was about an extra couple hundred dollars

ok then, you have non HID jdm housings ( I had them too) then you don't have fog lights, and you won't be able to install them, unless you take your headlights apart and do some major fab work to make a base/ lens/ reflector for the fogs.

^^ That pretty much sums up the OP's situation.

Adding more to this:
Ive opened up my fair share of JDM CT9A & CZ4A headlights. I pretty much know the ins and outs of these headlights...

Your headlights:
Your JDM HLs are NOT "VIIIMR" assemblies. VIIIMRs have:
* Matte black finishes
* HID (only option)
* Foglight (only option)

You have NONE of these options. You most likely have Halogen IXGSR HLs:
* Shadow chrome housing
* Halogen HB3 low beam
* NO Foglights

The "cover" in the foglight area is not a "cover" so to speak, nor is it detachable. Its actually part of the plastic housing that is painted:
chrome stripped off

repainted:

Here are some pix to get your head around foglight and non-foglight housings...

JDM VIIIMR foglight housing vs ADM VIIIGSR Non-foglight housing (Same as JDM & USDM):
Notice how the foglight housing has the adjustment screw at the top for UP & DOWN adjustment. The non-foglight housing doesnt.

JDM VIIIMR housing with the foglight reflector removed:

Basically, if you want to retrofit an aftermarket foglight you have to be prepared to:
* dremel then sand a perfect circle in the chrome "cover". Has to be neat otherwise itll look ghetto.
* dremel the back of the non-foglight housings
* fix the foglight reflector to the back of the HL. You will have to drill holes and resolve waterproofing issues
* Also waterproof the back of the foglight housing where the bulb and wiring feed through.

Way too much trouble if you ask me. Sell your Halogens and buy a HID set so you have factory foglights

Case is pretty much closed here

[edit]
Close up pic of JDM VIIIMR foglight housing with foglight reflector removed. The reflector is fixed at 3 points. The bottom 2 provide no adjustment (self tapping screws). The top provides UP & DOWN adjustment ONLY..

Can i solve this one for you then?

You have the JDM headlights and it looks as if you have already took them apart right?

-Take your factory headlight apart and swap the internals which keeps all your factory wires and saves you the hassle.

-Cut out the section on the jdm insides to accept the foglight coming through.

-Then you have the JDM look and save from pulling your hair. Then if you plan on selling them or swapping back its just plug and play for you and the next person.

And stop using caps. We get that you HAD ALREADY DONE what you have done. But without pictures noone can really help you out.

Interesting. I didnt know there were HID and non-HID JDM MR VIII heads. I did as post 8 states which was cut off my USDM fog harness and solder in the 9006 harnesses. Funny I came across this thread as somebody just asked me last night how I got my yellow fogs to work...
