Rota love and a little hate for the haters
^this
I love it when people make comments without reading first. I'm lowered on Swift Spec R springs but can go any lower because I scrape going into my driveway as it is. FYI its not a matter of being able to afford VOLKS because if I really wanted em I'd get em. I just don't see the benefit in paying over 3 times the money for them. Not to mention the fact that 9.5" TE37s are nowhere near as concave & nice looking as the 9.5" Grids to me. So I get a better looking wheel and an extra $2500 in the bank. And for the record I don't hate VOLKS & am well aware that they are lighter wheels but just not worth the extra cash to me. Id rather put my money where it counts.

I'll admit that I got a little bit of ricer in me and it doesn't bother me a bit. One of the big reasons I switched to SD is so that I could run a Tial BOV and clean the engine bay up a bit. These decals were don purely for looks so I decided to come up with something fun to do with them.
If you had more money, things like authentic rims would fall into that category. You didn't need a pink valve cover, but that "counted" because it was priced within your reason. Spending money on a "turbo & rims" instead of just rims still just means you don't have enough money to blow. Don't kid yourself that your income isn't dictating your opinion on real VOLKS.
Don't get me wrong, I'm in the same boat: Can i justify the price of a new toxicfab exhaust manifold?? Nope. Would buying one be putting my money where it counts?? Nope. BUT, I'm not going to make custom sticker pretending like it's over priced and not worth people's money when it's really just me who can't justify the expense.
One more thing, if it wasn't for companies like VOLK, Rota wouldn't have amazing styles to copy. Copyrights exist so companies like Rota don't shut down one's like VOLK. Let's hope the lack of them in this industry doesn't do just that. Companies like Rota can hugely stifle progress. (IMO lol
)
p.s. I don't pretend to be some 100% moral person like most people. So, if Rota puts out a fully chromed or polished workmeister s1 18x9.5 +28, I'd probably have to buy them lol.

Not really. I truly do prefer the look of the 9.5 Grid to to that of the 9.5 TE37. For me the wheels are all about looks. If I was to compete with my car I would be running the lightest wheel that fit my size requirements. I am by no means rich but if I wanted VOLKS I could and would get them.
And you're right about the valve cover. I'm an automotive painter so free was well worth the cost

I can't say that I hate ROTA's (I would never buy a set but I don't hate them) and I'm just giving my .02 cents, but I think its the wording that gets us "real wheel" guys. You say they're overpriced which means they're priced more than they should be. A $40,000 Honda Civic EX is overpriced, a $500 VCR is overpriced, researched and developed wheels are not overpriced in our opinion. However, I know Rota's have their place; and that place is an inexpensive substitution.
It's like buying a knock-off pair of Christian Louboutin shoes; the quality of the knockoff is going to be less. Whether the knock-offs perform day in and day out, it doesn't matter. It's made of lesser material and likely manufactured under less strict conditions. I'm glad that you're happy with your wheels but calling the JDM wheel guys' wheels overpriced is absurd. Honestly I think one poster hit the nail on the head, if real wheels weren't going to affect your bank account you'd have them. Buying a pair of Advans or Volks wouldn't hurt me much and thus I have a pair + built motor and other stuff.
You don't see Ferrari guys buying knock-offs because they're $1,500/wheel, because the difference between $1,500 and $3,000/wheel is negligible. The difference between $200/wheel and $800/wheel isn't really a big deal.
Concave Volks can be had, you may have to custom them but they can be had:

The 10.5 TE37s have the concave look but I didn't want a wheel that wide. And yet again. The money wasn't the deciding factor. If I had a 100k in the bank and plenty more flowing in I would still have the Rotas. Actually I was close to buying a set of gold RGIIs when these were offered to my by a local friend. Another local buddy sold a set of VOLK RE30s that I really wanted and but after the BBSs I wanted something easier to clean. I'm not really a VOLK hater. I just wanted to put an accent on my wheels and figured I'd take a stab at the Rota haters for fun. I'm all for spen your money on whatever makes you happy.
Shunderwunder has one of the cleanest evo's in A-T-L. Point Blank. Period. Look at his mods and his motor I'm pretty sure he could afford Volks, CCW's, or BBS if he chose. He simply put his money where he wanted it. Lie to yourself if you like, but high-priced wheels are always a bad investment. Too easy to steal or curb and you will def lose on the resell. Take the stickers of a set of Grids and Volks, place them side by side, and I'm sure most would chose the Grids. If Im not mistaken the Grids have wider spokes and are much more concave.
I mean when did "Evo World" become so much like "Honda World"?!? Ooooh oooh I got Spoon this or Mugen that.
@ the person who said "rice", give me a break. There are so many widebody evo's on here that will NEVER hit the track. Thats rice...just like that wide-body CRX with the big wing at your local Autozone.

Welcome to the tuning world, every part on his mod list is now worth a fraction of its origional MPRP.
Yes, yes I am. Our 3,000 pound cars can run an 18x10.5 with just a little roll and pull. You'll need those to properly run grown up sized tires. But hey, pink stickers are WAY cooler bro.
Take a look at that mod list, there is nothing but engine upgrades... No brakes, no suspension, no safety, nothing. Some might look down on that, or the fact he buys parts for purely cosmetic reasons. If someone made a thread about STICKERS slamming people that can't turn, there would be a bunch of hostility in it too.
