My Evo over the past year

So its been about a year since I purchased this Evo used from another member on here. I have done a lot of work over the year to it so I wanted to post some stuff up.

I wasn't overly thrilled with the way things were when I first bought the car, but it had a lot of potential.

Here's a break down of everything that was done to the car when I bought it.

2006 Evolution 9 SE in Graphite Gray

Motor:

Built 2.3 using AMS stroker kit
Ross 8.8:1 Forged Pistons
Manley H Beam Rods
4g64 crank
AMS balance shaft eliminator
Ported Intake Manifold
Mil Spec 65mm Throttle Body

Built Head:
Forced Performance FP4R cams
FP +1mm valves
ported head polished exhaust side

Turbo:
Peakboost Turbo Kit (Equal length exhaust manifold, downpipe, LICP)
GT35R

Supporting Mods:
HKS intake filter
Evolution Dynamics Intake
Forge Type RS BOV
AMS FMIC
Walbro 255 fuel pump
1000cc injectors
JUN BL catback exhaust

Tranny / Transfercase:
Shep built 5 speed trans
Exedy twin disc clutch
Shep built t-case

Suspension:

Tein S-Tech springs
Evo 8 Wheels painted white (yuck)

Keep in mind these are the mods that were done to the car when I purchased it.

The day I brought it home:

So now we see in my first post that this car was in serious need of some TLC! There were quite a few things I wanted to change on it.

One of the first thing I noticed after getting it home was the previous owner cutted the stock fender wells up so he could run larger wheel / tire combos with these crappy springs. So I went to Mitsu dealership and ordered brand new fender wells and installed them.

The next thing to go was the horrible riding Tein S-tech springs. I'm a bit older now, and I can't stand a harsh ride. I got lucky and found a buddy that was willing to trade my springs and struts plus some cash for the Teins. Horrible suspension problem solved!

After fixing the suspension I had to do something about the missing front screen mesh pieces and the missing hood vent cover. The previous owner was all about showing off. I like to keep things a litte more low key. So I re-installed the mesh in front of the intercooler, and installed the hood vent cover.

Last but not least... the horrible white wheels! I sanded them, washed them and the used Rustoleum Wheel spray paint in a graphite gray. After that, I clearcoated each wheel.

So here is how she sits right now:

Now for the fun stuff... Under the Hood! I swapped out a bunch of parts.

I pulled off quite a bit of stuff:

stock upper intercooler pipe
intake
HKS filter
stock upper radiator hose

Here is a pile of parts:

I also pulled the turbo kit, valve cover, radiator, and the lower intercooler pipe.

The turbo kit was cleaned and powder coated with high temp coating. Note the Digital Urban Camo Hotside :

The valve cover was also powder coated along with a few new goodies I ordered which included an ETS intake, and ETS upper intercooler pipe:

The lower intercooler pipe was a freaking joke. It was pieced together with muliple elbows and clamps. So I had it welded up and made into one piece.

Now its time to start putting it back together:

Almost done.. kind of. I bought a bunch of new goodies to support making lots of power. Here is the list of the new parts that went into it:

ETS upper intercooler pipe
ETS intake
Hallman MBC
Spoolin Up COP
Buschur Racing Walbro double pumper
Wilson Racing Fuel Rail
Injector Dynamics ID2000 cc injectors
Carbon Fiber radiator shroud
AEM Uego
Moved the battery to the trunk
Home built air divider for the intake with cold air feed

I know there is more, I just can't remember it all

Here is the final product... for now:

The last thing I did was get rid of the overly loud exhaust system. The JUN BL was just to much for me. I even added a resonated test pipe, and still could not deal with it. So I decided to go back to the stock cat back and run a boost actuated exhaust valve. This has been by far the best thing I could have done to this car! I love how quiet it is now.

Sound Performance makes this valve. It starts to open at 5 psi and is fully open by 11 psi. Since I'm running a GT35R, I don't have to worry about driving around in boost, so this thing only opens then I get on it. This boost actuated cut out is in my test pipe.

Here are some pics:

Shep built t-case

Suspension:

Stock springs and struts
Evo 8 Wheels painted Graphite Gray

Here are the pump 91 octane results:

Car sees 25 psi by 4500, just to give you guys an idea of the spool.
Car pulls like a raped ape!

We were working on the E85 tune, but are on hold for the moment. Going to be switching to a Grimmspeed 3 port EBC.

I plan on purchasing some springs or some Bilstein struts and springs at some point soon.

As of right now I'm kind of stumped as to what I want to do for the exterior. I would like some exterior bling, but nothing over the top or ricey. So if any of you guys has any suggestions.. post em up.

How do you like the boost-actuated cutout? I haven't heard anything about them, good or bad.

Excellent job on the transformation! Very clean and classy! I too am not one for super loud exhaust, plus the po-po's give tickets out here for any and everything possible.
I run a DMH cut out with a stock exhaust and have it welded into a 3" testpipe off the dp.
I like that idea of the boost actuated cut out too.

I love it! The only thing I was worried about with it was the vacuum line weathering overtime and splitting or tearing and then it not working. But to help with that I doubled it up and put the vacuum line that runs to it into another larger line.

Here is where I bought it from: http://www.spracingonline.com/

Its a little steep on the price, but definately worth it IMO .

I'll try to get a video and post it up. I've been meaning to do a review on it, but I always forget .

Update: Been tuning on E85 using Tom (tscompusa). Up to about 36 psi right now with more to go. I'm looking for at least 600whp out of her.

Also:

So after much debate and some help from SmikeEvo (suspension guru) I bought and installed these:

MR Bilsteins with Swift Sports Springs. Not quite Hella Flush status, but still better than stock.

All I can say is OMG! This is the smoothest ride I have had to date on any 4 door sports car I've ever owned which includes two STIs and another Evo 9 SE. My 04 STI had JDM pink springs which still made it harsh and my last Evo 9 had Swift Sports but on the stock KYB struts. This setup is awesome! I wish I would have done it along time ago.

Here are some pics I took this morning with the new suspension setup:

Next up might be wingless and some wheels. I'm really wanting something with a lip.

I'm really liking these:
