front and rear tow hooks

I'm going to start road racing my evo more so I'm thinking id like to invest in some tow hooks so I don't rip my bumper off while towing, and I need some more green on the car anyways.

How do people install the rear hook? Can you bolt something like one of the rear ones in the link below to the oe tow hook, or how else would you install it?

Thanks for any pics or information!

Wanted a proper track day tow hook. Installed this a few weeks ago.

Personally haven't seen a proper rear hook on an 8 or 9. Seen one on an X which was welded to the right rear beam but If I remember correctly it had a stock bumper cover plate which made it look clean.

Certainly seen my share of the non functional JDM thing bolted to the rear stock hook

Well I'm looking for a functional rear hook lol, not into doing it for looks, I guess just having a front hook will be good enough. Nice evo btw.

Would this one work as a front hook? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GREEN...item45fb4d2b56

Which one are you guys using? Thanks.

I first started using that EBay front lollipop hook & it looks terrible IMO. It mounts way too proud of the bumper cover & after clipping it w/ my knee it had to go.

The hook Ive mounted is very close to being flush because it folds. IMO, stay away from that EBAY hook. The rear is not needed IMO for track day duty

Peace

For the rear, the factory one seems to work just fine...for the front...I personally don't like any tow hook that sticks out of the front bumper! Not for looks...but if you damage your front end, that will be the first thing hit/bent/destroyed, then what good is it? Heck, even a little fender bender on a track would mangle it... I prefer to use a strut perch mounted tow hook... one that sticks out of the hood... anything goes wrong, just pop the hood, latch it to the tow truck and your on your way even w/ a mangled front end.... just my .2

Thanks for the responses. The front tow hook isn't just for if you get nailed in the front bumper, but if something goes out while you're on the track and need to be pulled in. I've had front bumpers and fmic's drained because they just hook on and get you out of there...

Where can I find a folding hook like pictured above? And how does the strut mounted hook work? Do you have to have tour hood completely popped, or what?

Thanks

The front hook is supposed to be there in case anything goes wrong on the track, be it mechanical or due to a crash...I just feel better being able to have a tow hook that can handle both duties on the track...but of coarse, we all pray we will never need to use one if I HAD to do a nose mounted tow hook, then I would do exactly what MinusPrevious did, as his is a very well done one

As for the strut mounted ones... nagisa auto has a bolt on tow hook (which is what I have)...you unbolt the 3 strut top bolts and bolt it on... but you have to cut a little slit in your hood to close it, as the loop protrudes through the hood...you don't HAVE to pop your hood to use the tow hook, they can just latch onto the car and go....but I don't want my hood scratched, so if I need to use it, ill pop my hood id post a few pics of my setup, but I'm using my phone to post this...but u can look at my older threads and you'll see my tow hook

Good luck w/ whatever tow hook you choose! Hope u never have to use it!

The hook can be had from a few places. I bought it direct from Rennline here:http://www.rennline.com/searchprods.asp

Parts needed are this: E13.09 & E82

Vipers hook is a bit more hard core & if you know Vipers he is hard core =)

This is the weldment of the receiver. BTW, You can always un-screw the hook & no one knows the diff.
