Mini-battery, alternative solution to PC680

With the short cold front we had last week here in the northeast, my two years old Odyssey PC680 had some trouble starting the car. So I wanted something stronger, but wouldn't cost too much. Did a ton of research which resulted in this. 5lbs heavier than the PC680, but has double the CCA of the PC680 (400 vs. 220), and still cheaper than both the PC680 and PC925 (which was my other solution). The name is a re-branded DEKA EXT30L. All I had to do was make a new tie-down for the battery, which is shown in the pic. My existing tray is a Nisei Engineering one, designed for the PC680.

For what it's worth, JM Fabrications make a very nice kit, using the Odyssey PC925 battery. However, the battery I'm using now has slightly more cranking amps, and is still lighter by 3lbs.

Nisei tray shown. Where it mounts to the car. Also the battery can be found at Advance Autoparts, but cheaper if purchased online. I was a little desperate!

Tie-down I made using a friends Craftman router. Its 1/4 inch thick aluminum stock, which could be purchase at Home Depot or Lowe's.

Here's the battery mounted on the the car. Fits great, with plenty of room for that short route upper intercooler pipe.

Google search for a DEKA EXT30L. Should take to to East Penn Batteries website, whom is the manufacturer based here in PA. I've seen a number of places offer them for $109 with free shipping. Good luck

PS: What you know about Haro Monocoques?

I can't seem to find anything about the EXT30L on their site either haha. I'm in the same situation you are, looking for something for cold winters. My PC680 is starting to leave me.

What about the Monocoques? I used to run one when I raced, still have the yellow frame actually haha!

Post 115 has all the details to do the deca battery. Whole setup was under 150.

That's a good option also, but the CCA is not as high as the one I posted.

Would this battery fit in the JMFab PC925 kit?

My stock battery is toast and instead of replacing I was thinking about doing something like this.

you think thats a good idea?

^If you are looking to buy a kit, might as well buy the entire JMF 925 kit. ExtremePSI has it for $31x, which is a good price. If you don't care about looks and want to piece something together, you have my number sir!
