LHTuning JDM rear replica and other replica experiences?

does anyone have any experiences with the LHTuning rear?

in talking with their very helpful staff, it looks like the only differences are that the tow hook cover is fixed and that the hole behind the rear plate is smaller. otherwise they say the fit and compatibility with other aftermarket parts is the same.

I'm just wondering if anyone has comments on fit/finish or anything else to consider when looking at the LHTuning bumper vs a pre-painted OEM part.

I'm partial to the LHTuning option because of the smaller hole behind the plate and because I thought it would be better to match the paint to the current paint condition than go with factory paint. However I talked to a couple body shops and they said there probably wouldn't be much difference.

I'm also interested in hearing about any other replicas....thanks.

there seems to be a real demand for the apex silver's so there isn't a used market unfortunately. if that was the case, I would definitely go for it.

There are several options for you to choose but let me list two of the best ones:

1. Buy a replica JDM rear from bayson-r. I have seen the fitment of this one compared to an OEM JDM rear they are almost identical. Another good thing is that they are located in San Jose so you can check out the bumper before you buy.

2. Buy an OEM one from mitsubishiparts.net.

BTW both options will need paint.

the bayson-r one is more expensive than a drivelinestore.com one shipped to me that is pre-painted.

why would an OEM one from mitsubishi parts need paint? aren't all the JDM bumpers pre-painted? that was my understanding

OEM one wont need paint, assuming you find it in your color...

If your car was BBY(like mine) yes it would need paint as the evo 9 did not come in BBY

Otherwise an OEM one will look just fine

The bayson-r bumper is not more expensive. If you call bayson-r they will tell you the real price for the bumper. I forgot exactly what it was but its not 1K.

Mitsubishi parts.net the last time I looked only carried the white JDM rear, so since your Evo is silver it would need to be repainted.

deylag, your logic makes sense now....if mitsuparts only covers white than yes it would have to be painted unless your car is white. and i found bayson-r's ebay page. 425 for their bumper vs 999 on their website store.

are there any posts of people's experiences with that bumper that you're aware of? I am very interested in supporting a local company if the quality is going to be near OEM.

back on topic, does anyone have any experience with the LHTuning replica?

civicej8, did you have a bad experience with a replica? which one?

turboey, i agree. the only thing I'm concerned about is the paint matching and the potential need to touch up the bumper if there are issues during installation. also, the replicas fill in the area behind the license plate which makes it look better than the JDM OEM one.

According to my friends the LHTuning bumpers fit well with no problems. Their website show's pictures of his apex silver evo ix of the same bumper painted and installed good luck!

Here's the bumper on their website http://www.lhtuning.com/evo-jdm-styl...umper-p-5.html

i'm going to go check out the bayson one sometime this coming week. i think the only difference is that the bayson one has a removable towhook cover. the one from LH is fixed.

however the LH one looks like they filled most of the license plate hole that looks terrible on the JDM OEM bumper. i can't tell on the bayson one.

for anyone following
i went and checked out the bayson R bumper
  • it looks like it is pretty well built (overseas...they have their own factory)
  • they guarantee fitment which is nice
  • the guy working there was nice, brought out the part and helped me compare it to the broken JDM oem one I have on my car currently
  • The guy helping me over email was helpful but eventually suggested I just come take a look.
  • The price is low 400s, not 1000 as per their website. the issue is the webstore isn't ready to go yet so they made everything 1000 to make it more obvious that it wasn't working yet.
  • they couldn't confirm and I didn't take pictures, but I'd say the pictures on their ebay page are not of their bumper. see the attached picture. the lines in area 1 are not on their bumper. across the license plate section is completely flat. in area 2, the cutout on the verical section is not there. only the horizontal cutout (hand cut) is there.
  • as far as I can see, all the mounting holes are there on both the bottom and the top.
  • the tow-hook cover doesn't fit perfectly (there are some gaps near the top) and is connected with hexhead screws not plastic buttons like the JDM OEM one.
  • they claim that the bumper is pre scuffed for less prep work for paint but it looked pretty uneven to me.
  • one thing that I would agree with them is that coming unpainted gives the opportunity for the paint to be blended better but also to avoid issues during installation. if you scratch a pre-painted OEM part, you'll have to fix it up anyways.
Overall, I think the bumper is pretty good for a replica.
