I wouldn't worry about this. as long as the vinyl was stuck to a clean surface cutting it off before the tuck will probably make it more difficult to get off than if it's tucked like it is now because it'd be on a flat surface instead of over an edge

think of it this way: are you worried about the top (the edge that's along the middle of the tail light) peeling? if you weren't until now, the bottom would be more than fine trimmed down
