Are you running the trailing links at the rear because of the wheel clearance?

Thinking about this setup with 285 and wondering if I will have enough clearance.

Moving from a 18 x 9 + 35mm.

 

problem is the tire squirms on the rim and pushes inboard past where th wheel is...and you rub the tire on the link. You can run a 5mm spacer on the 18x10's and probably not have much of a rubbing issue inboard, but then you're going to be close on the outboard side.

 

I am assuming you are running street tires though, right? So there is more deflection. My 285 will be on R-compounds strictly, so hopefully the flex is not enough to rub.

 

I run r888's on the street and Hoosier's on the track. I'm talking about Hoosiers... they move way more than street tires.

If you want 285's and 10's or 10.5's... get the Robispec trailing arms (I fabricated them) and then you'll have a lot more room and options. I run 18x10.5's with 285s

 

Hmm....interesting that the Hoosiers move more than street tires.

Unfortunately, I am bounded by the rules (ASP in SCCA solo), so I can't change the arms for this.

I am still quite confused how such a small change can cause clearance issue.

18 x 9.5 +35mm
18 * 10 + 38mm

Given the tire width is the same, so we are talking about a mere 15.7 mm more towards the inside and 9.7mm more on the outside.

the 18x9.5 +38 will rub the oem trailing arm something fierce. a 5mm spacer will make it better... a 10mm spacer will cure it.

The tire will move less on a wider wheel.

the 18x10 +38 doesnt fit without the offset trailing arms. You'd need a spacer to push it out.

 

The tire willl easily move 10mm outside of the rim. I had my 305/645/18 Pzero slicks do that on my 10.5's

Evo8/9 BBS= 17x8 35offset
EvoX= 18X8.5 38offset

I'm looking at running a new wheel tire combo for next season. Looking like RPF1 18x9.5 or 10 with the new star spec ZII 285/30/18 which is act 290 wide. Otherwise the 275 is a 35 tall sidewall which will increase the diameter which I would like to keep down. I'm guessing I will need the aftermarket trailing link and some fender mods.
Does anyone have experience with AST coilovers and spring size?
