Evo VIII SSL....my third Evo
This is my 3rd Evo. Last car was an 05 STI with 36k on it. Basic bolt ons and loved it but sold it before I deployed.
Got back from deployment about a year ago and was getting the itch again for speed. I found this Evo down in San Diego. Had 37k on it which is pretty low mileage for an 05.
Onto the pics.
Day I got it.
And already installed mods:
Evo 9 Turbo
Stage 2 street clutch
HKS 272 Cams
HKS 30th Anniversary cat back w/ test pipe and dp
Tien lowering springs (actually not as bad as people made them out to be)
Injen upper intercooler piping (fml)
Injen intake (again fml)
HKS BOV (fml horrible drivability)
Hallman manual boost controller
Walbro fuel pump
Evo 9 tail lights
Shorty Antenna
MR Gauges

Course I couldn't stand the stock intercooler for much longer so I picked up the Buschur 3.8 inch race intercooler with their lower intercooler pipe.

Wasn't too much longer after that that I knew the stock wheels had to go. I knew I wanted to have a very aggressive stance. I had to modify my rear bumper and shave where it bolted up the car so it would clear the tires.

RPF1 in SBC 18x10 +15

These originally came wrapped in 255/35/18 tires but to my dissapointment I found out that my car had had some body work done on the passenger side rear body panel above the wheel. I found this out when I had a guy roll my front fenders and tried to pull my rear fenders. Since the material used to fix dents is like a clay if you bend it it will just crack and ruin the fender. So I just had him shave the rear fenders. Very annoyed at this. I was able to run -2 camber in the rear but that still didn't clear the tires.
My only option was to run a smaller tire. I was afraid 245's would still be close so I bumped all the way down to OEM size....235/45. The stretch actually wasn't too bad. I absolutely HATE stretched tires btw.
This is what it looked like.

After getting that fiasco all sorted out I moved onto the next thing that bothered me. The brake calipers. They were faded as ***. Like really bad. Someone must of spilled brake fluid on them or something.
This is the before.

After. Not 100% perfect but worlds better than they looked before IMO. Btw I painted them while they were on the car.

That is pretty much all I've done since getting the car. Oh Actually I have since moved and now have a garage for it.
This is what it looks like today.

Future mods:
1200cc injectors for E85
New wing
Rebuild trans (most likely the next thing I do)
Repaint car

SBC are an absolutely AWESOME wheel! I have a friend with a set of them on his X and they are STUNNING! They change color with every angle... and pick up so many different colors around them. I'd like to find a set for my IX someday... someday...
Nice job thus far, keep the pics and mods coming!

Looking good!! I'm glad I got to see that you were able to repaint the Brembos with them still on the car. I've been think about doing that myself since I don't feel comfortable taking the calipers off by myself. Was it difficult to tape everything off?
A little more stretched than I would go for but to each is own, much better than stock.
And I don't know why but the last pic cracks me up with the way the dogs ears are. Of course it is late & I am tired so... Or it could be I'm smoking crack.

I used aircraft paint stripper from autozone. It helps a lot in the process. The clear coat will literally peel/fall right off.
The actual paint takes some work but the paint stripper makes the paints softer. I used a wirebrush and connected it to my drill. That seemed to work best.
There is a coat of paint beneath the red that is the base coat. It's black and you will want to keep as much on as possible. If the bare metal is showing thats ok just move onto another spot.
I used a flat black caliper paint 4-5 coats with 20 mins of drying inbetween. Then I used 3-4 coats of gloss clear. You have to be really careful with the clear. Spray too much of it on at a time and it will bubble/haze up.
Thanks man. Why not just go 18's?
twins! my car looks just like this except im on 17' rpf1s and a jdm rear+ nose chop! IX tails etc. when you do paint chop the nose and throw on a do luck front lip it would look sick.
