Electric Hydraulic power steering in the works!

Been working on this on and off for the past few months. I really love clean/empty engine bays and the factory power steering pump is ugly so I figured removing it could really clean things up. Will also allow for different exhaust manifold runner routing with the oem pump out of the way.

The pump mounting bracket is just a preliminary design that I cut with the plasma and haven't even cleaned up or bent properly disregard it's appearance. The actual bracket will be thicker, prob stainless, and powder coated wrinkle black. The pump is not that heavy, but I know the question of weight will come up. I have yet to weigh it but will soon.

I intend to design an oem pump delete pulley similar to this one that Strictly Modified offers but with a belt long enough to keep the AC comp. I would just use theirs but $160 for a pulley/belt/spacer and some hose is a little steep IMO.

For those unfamiliar with the toyota mr-2, it has an electric motor but uses the same hydraulic fluid as normal so the steering will feel the same as before, with no parasitic loss (not like it really matters) and a cleaner appearance. It has it's own "ecu" if you will, that will work off of 4 wires. Constant, switched power, ground, and an input from the VSS from the cars ecu. People have been retrofitting these on Hondas and custom chassis for years without any issues so although this setup is not working yet, I don't have any doubt that it will. The motor on the pump draws 70 amps at full lock at most, so the factory alternator will not be strained. I will have some wiring harness/breaker panel stuff posted soon. Seeing how it's not working yet and there's no drivetrain in my car, there's definitely a chance that I missed something so feel free to point it out.
Let me know what you think.

I've never had an ACD car to work with but I was under the impression that there were already kits out there? I've seen a few relocations in the past, I'm guessing those were just their own custom lines/brackets though?

Oh yeah that's sick! they are pretty popular setups. I am planning to run this to kick the pump on when the key goes hot, then run the speed sensor input to control the pump's motor speed. The switch would be alright although for a production kit (which I'd eventually love to do) I worry that people would forget to hit the switch and be in for an unexpected surprise at lower speeds haha

Yea that is understandable. Definitely cool you are making a production kit. I myself did not even know about the mr2 pumps until he told me but then again i dont autox or anything. But i love people always trying new things so good luck man!
