What material to use for spoiler mount
What material to use for spoiler mount
Hey all so I searched A LOT about this but nothing specific came up.
A little background, I just bought an EVO VIII wing/trunk lid from a guy for $60 (wow
).
The catch? The trunk and spoiler mount have accumulated some rust. So.. I am in the process of removing the rust and reclear/recoat and rustproofing. I took the spoiler off and got started on my project.
Now, the question. What materials should I use to prevent water from going into the bolts? This would prevent water from going inside my trunk obviously. I plan on using double sided automotive 3M tape which may or may not be sufficient enough to keep water from going inside the bolt and rusting it. But I think there's got to be some better alternatives out there that I just dont know of.
I think water can still sneak pass the double sided tape due to experience from my previous car that had the spoiler 'professionally' installed, any suggestions?

Anyone? Basically, when you mount the spoiler, you want something holding onto the spoiler, will double sided 3M do the job just fine keeping in mind that we need to waterproof the bolt/trunk.
I just had this conversation with a buddy of mine and he used inter-tubes and would cut them up to use as a gasket to seal. I was thinking of trying to find some thin neoprene material similar to what they would use as a mug or beer can sleeve to keep things cool, those are generally water proof as well. The neoprene is also a softer material so when you bolt down the spoiler it will sandwich it and compress it to help create a nice seal.
