clear coat on 2006 EVO IX peeling
Just wanted to get a toll on how many Evo ix owners and more specifically electric blue evos with clear coat peeling issues. The entire roof and hood of my EB evo ix the clear coat has begun to peel. The car I purchased brand new and it has never been repainted nor has it been involved in any sort of accident. The car has been garaged the majority of its life. It's really upsetting to see my car deteriorate this way. The car has approximately 174k miles. I called Mitsubishi and they are refusing to assist me with any cost in repainting the damaged areas. I figured I am the original owner and the car has been well maintained and cared for the entirety of its life so there should be no reason for the clear coat to peel this way. I used to own a black 92 toyota camry while I was in the military stationed at Edwards AFB and that car was exposed to the blistering desert sun for years and never did the clear coat ever start to fail. I just want to see how many Evo owners have had the same issue. I am aware that there was a carbon fiber wing clear coat issue and the wing has barely also started to peel. I will admit the evo as a whole is reliable and bullet proof but I am shocked and disappointed in the poor paint quality. Anyone who can refer a body shop I would really appreciate it. I have gotten quotes ranging from $1600 up to $3000. Please share any similar experiences. I will be updating this post with images soon. Thanks guys and gals.
I think you're in the wrong section but to answer your question its not something i've seen in any other evo's i've come across. Quite frankly im not surprised that this happened. The paint quality on the evo is horrible when compared to paint from other japanese manufacturers. I own a 04 bby 8 and other than the clear coat going bad on the wing I haven't seen any clear coat peeling anywhere else on the car. I've always been very diligent about proper paint care. I dont think theres ever been a period of time when my paint hasn't been protected by sealant and wax which is probably there hasn't been any peeling. I do know one thing though, that peeling will spread throughout the rest of the car if you don't take care of it now. I highly recommend just biting the bullet and getting it fixed now before it gets worse
