How to: Exterior Detail on Evo IX

Step 1:

Spray the car down with water

Step 1.5

Spray the wheels and paint with a degreaser – I like a Enviroclean by P&S

Step 2:

Use microfiber towel to break dirt lose from the paint and wheels

Step 3:

Rinse off car

Step 4:

Use chamois to dry the windows first, headlamps, grills then the paint.
Paint does not need to be completely dry.

Step 5:

Use purple clay bar for paint with heavy contamination, oxidation, acid rain drops or other blemishes embedded in the paint.

For a well maintained car, the gray clay bar is suitable.

Spray the clay bar and a 2’ x 2’ area of the car with a 1:4 showroom shine to water solution.

Use medium to firm pressure on the clay bar and glide it across the paint.

Always keep the clay and paint well lubricated with the 1:4 solution.

Fold the clay bar inward after completing every 2x2 section.

Step 6:

Mask off windshield and other areas that you do not want to get polish or wax on.

(5 minutes of prep work can save you hours of clean up later)

Step 7:

Apply polish to a foam pad and spread across a section of paint. I like to do the hood, front fenders and headlamps as one step.

Once you have a thin layer of polish applied to the paint you can use a high speed (1800 – 2200 rpm) buffer to work the polish into the paint.

Step 9:

Remove any excess polish with a microfiber towel and move to the next panel(s)

Step 10:

Apply a wax with a sealant, allow to dry and buff off either by hand or with a high speed buffer with a clean foam pad.

I would never leave a MF on the floor like that, but everything else looks good!
