Cigar Button Starter - check it out i got Vidz
That is a good spot for it. If the car doesn't start unless you push the button, then it's got a little theft deterent built in since it looks just like the regular lighter!
The fact that it is still a 12V socket is very cool. A write up would be really great since I'm a little confused how any accessories plugged in won't accidentally turn the starter motor?

The new vid rules; now that I see whats happening I must bow down to you
. Very very cleaver to use the cigarette lighter. Kinda reminds me of when the guy would push it and then the car blew up

two questions...
1. do you have to press the lighter to start the car, or can you still start it with just the key?
2. is the lighter still functional to light cigarettes, or plug in a radar detector...etc?

yes its still a constant 12v source, u can plug in the radar detector. its a cigar lighter still, but while u push it down and wait for the lighter to heat up, it will constantly "try" to start the car by activating the starter.....not a good thing buddy

also where exactly is the button....inside the socket for the lighter or under the entire assembly?
you can do both, use the key or the button....
there is no button, the lighter itself is the button...by pressing down the lighter....it acts like a swtich by sending a signal to the ignition to start the car....like i said there is no extra materials required

edison - first of all,

on being inventive AND sharing. this is a genuinely rad idea.
some questions:
with your setup, can the starter circuit work at any time, or only when the key is on? if anytime, the lighter could short and make the car take off if it was in gear.
even if only when the key is on, you still have a risk of a sloppy-tolerance stogie-lighter shorting and having the starter engage while driving.
if you jiggle that thing around and/or twist it or anything, will the two contact points touch at all?
I guess I can always check mine with a test light somehow...
Also, can you list the electronic components you have installed along with your DIY, and if possible, which ones make noise? All that stuff together sounds hella cool.
