Anyone hardwire a radar detector?

Has anyone found a way to hardwire their radar detector, or at least hide the wire?

i did it a different way then most ppl (the only way Ive see it done here is running it thru the center console. I feel my way is easier...I ran the wire up under the head liner then down the passenger pillar then removed a panel thats only accessable when you open the psg door. There is a harness right there and I just checked all the wires with a voltmeter until I got 12v when the car is on and 0 when its off. I used the yellow wire (I think its power to the windows and mirror --not sure tho) soldered a fuse holder on down there. And it was good to go. Super stealthy install. Goes on when I start, turns off when I turn off-- No ugly wire and stupid cigarrette attachment!!

Here' an even easier way.

Buy some mini fuse taps from Pepboys or Autozone. Solder on a power lead with a small amp fuse on it (just for extra security, or you an just run a lead) and attach the tap onto a fuse. I used the radio fuse I believe. Attach the power of the radar to the power, and ground the ground. Easier said than done

My set-up is similar to the one above - the main difference is that I just tapped the power from one of the overhead lights and ran a small lead out through the headliner above the mirror.

It was quick and easy, and let's me leave the detector on even if the car off.

Hey, why go to all that trouble? Just tap into the red/yellow (sunroof) wire down the a pillar and job is done. If you have a sunroof that is!!! Radar will then come on at the accessory setting on the ignition.

Nice! Could you write a how-to (ideally, with photos...) of installing one if you have a sunroof, or go into more detail, at the least?

crimp into the domelight hot wire, screw a ground in, then plug in your radar, and drive away.

Read that other thread, it's a simple process, and if you really want, just tuck the wires into the headliner and tap into a power wire in the A piller. That would also be pretty easy

awesome, pictures would be great! to tap into a power in the sunroof/domelight, would that require cutting into any wire wraps or is there a place to clip onto or wrap around pretty easy?...

I tapped the same place for my auto dimming mirror and radar. Keeping the detector a little lower is generally better than up by the mirror, but thats a debate for a different topic.

...the wire slides down from the a-pillar to the fuse box pretty easily and stays hidden under the dash with ease also. Its a pretty simple instal, but everybody has to start somewhere!
