How to take apart stock radio console area?

I need to install my Alpine headunit, so how do I take the stock radio console area apart so I can get to removing it?

Is there a write-up somewhere?

Funny enough, I just finished putting a new kenwood deck in not 30 minutes ago. The Evo has the easiest stock deck to remove I've ever done.

1. Pull of the 3 knobs for the a/c stuff
2. Unscrew the 2 screws you now see
3. The dash piece around the radio/ac stuff pops off with a little force, just be carefull
4. Unscrew 4 screws on radio, and thats it!

you can also take the mounts off the side of the stock radio and use them on your new alpine unit to put it back together! g'luck!

Cool, sounds easy enough. One more question, what did you use for power & ignition?

If I were you I'd get a plug-in harness from Best Buy / Circuit City. It will make your install MUCH easier, and cleaner

Better to bump a old thread then to start a new, but I have a 2006 Evolution IX and I'm wondering what the correct wiring harness is. I went to circuit city and they gave me metra 80-7001, Is this correct? It says for Mitsu-95 and up

I think they use the same harness. I pulled my harness from my 97' Eclipse and put it on my 03' Evo. Fits and works perfectly.

It is the same harness that has been used for years. That should be the right one

as for [Cyanide], get a harness and dont hack into the stock wire hareness,
never hack into the stock hareness (only do it if there is no harness for that make/model/year)
