Paint care tips anyone???

Sup yall,

I'm trying to find the best products to use on my rally red RS. I know that the red doesn't have a clear coat. What are you other rally red owners using? I want to make sure my paint keeps looking great and keeps its shine for a long time. Thanks!

Let me start with "I'm an EVO owner". I love my EVO... best driving machine around. But who the F cares about keeping the paint in good condition?? The factory paint is riddled with the orangepeel effect. It looks like crap when you look at it close. If it wasn't for the fact that it takes around 6 months to get a decent paint job done, I'd just redo mine and ask the painter how to take care of it.

Sorry to go off... just the one of the things Mitsu should improve upon for future models.

Peace

If I were you I would use Zaino. Zaino has a special wax for cars that dont have clear coats. There is another rally red owner here that used it and said it worked great. Check out Zainostore.com

I just spent like 14 hours last weekend detailing my Rally Red 03. First I washed it...(duh) then used Mother's brand Claybar treatment, followed by Mother's brand Cleaner Wax, followed by 2 coats of Meguires Golod Class Wax. I couldn't believe the difference! The red looked deeper and purer. I highly recommend this to anyone.

p.s. I picked up all these products at Advance Autoparts

RSGuy, the car does have clearcoat, it's just applied at the same time as the paint. It's not a true two step (paint, dry, then clear) process.

As for care; I agree with Bom's. Keep it clean and free of contaminants and keep plenty of wax on it. I wax with Maguirs (brand really doesn't matter if you use it properly and often enough) and make sure to do it at least once a month. Mines black and this has worked fine for me. My paint looks damn good.

Good luck, hope that helps. Let me know if you want more details.

Well...the wax type does actually matter. Not so much for shine, as for longevity and ease of use. Zaino, or Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax, is proven to last a lot longer than your average Carnauba. It's also easier to apply.

Of course, it costs more. But you knew that.

I use the NXT and it's actaully very reasonably priced. I should have clarified. It does matter what type of wax you get to the point of getting a decent name brand wax. My comment should have been more like "..something like zaino isn't necessary if you don't want to spend that much money". Most any name brand (Maguiars, rian-x, etc) wax if applied once a month will do the job just fine.

Sorry if I was bit vague.

ChrisS, I beleive if you search around the forum, this is a known issue. From what I've read this happens due to the door alignment. A bunch of other EvoM members had this issue and got it fixed and painted under warranty. You should look into it. Here is some info I dug up quickly..
