Bass tubes are what you do when you don't have room for a real system Subs will sound better and out perform bass tubes every single time just make sure you replace the rest of your system too so that it stays ballanced and you don't just have a rattle box good speakers amps and wires are important

Boo to basstubes=0

Basstubes are outdated!!! May be better suited for pickup trucks. They sound horrible!!! They lack the clean tight impact that a true sub has. Sure they are efficient but sound too boomy for me and dont go low!!! With todays technology and materials you can fit a nice sub in a small compact enclosure, save weight and still have the clarity and impact you deserve. Look into Jl audio subs. They work well in boxes under 1 cu ft. I have a 12w7 in a small sealed box powered by 1000/1 amp and this thing is awesome!!! It will make your heart stop!!! Soo much nice tight clean bass no boominess Not to heavy either. Jl makes a 8inch sub 8w7 version as well. This thing is awesome as well. It will outperform alot of 12inch subs out there!!! All in a small sealed box. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for and prices are starting to go down a bit. Just my opinion. Hope this helps. Good luck

JL all the way they make the BEST subs and amps around I love my setup and they have lots of options for everyone
like Evo8's W7 hits really hard (I'm assuming its all set up and tuned correctly) and are a sweet sub for SPL and hittin really high db and for an SPL sub they still sound good. Or if you are totally about SQ like myself they make higher efficiency speakers like the W3 that have incredibly crisp sound and will run very well off lower power. (see "my ride" for pics)

Wow, 12W7 - that sounds awlsome! A little spendy maybe. I have to upgrade to those from my Alpine type R 12".

I agree JL is great! I'm running JL 6.5 XR comps and they're superb - warm and clean. And they took so much abuse from me, been transplanted in three cars and in the process I managed to tear the woofers multiple times. They've been bandaged but still sound great even when you overpower them to 180w rms per channel!

Now I just gotta step up with their subs! But back to topic, I'd ditch bass tubes, they sound weak and resonate. Get a decent sealed box, like Q-logic for $40, worth adding extra 15lbs to you car!!!

uh, retail on a 12w7 is $749 if I recall correctly. --don't get me wrong, my system isn't cheap either, but I don't think this has diddly to do with bass tubes.

the post about the infinity bass link is relevant though since it's a sub-in-a-can thing like a bass tube.

I've heard both and they are OK. newer bazookas are OK if you just want a little punch. they won't hit hard, and they won't hit low. it's meant to be a simple bolt-on for a near-stock stereo and it's alright for that.
