Painting options

When a car is "diamond dusted" is the flakes that sparkle in the clear coat or in the actual paint itself? My evo suffered a number of scrapes from impromptu off road driving and i need to touch up the paint because of it.

You will never want to have "flakes", pearl effects, or prismatiques in the "top-coat" clear. Metallic and pearl basecoat colors will give you the sparkle, but you could always just throw some pearl with clear color blender, then top-coat clear on any scuffed basecoat.

Thanks. I have the entire drivers side scrapped up and after washing and waxing nothing came out. Damn grass reeds did a number to me.
