JDM Rear Bumper Support

One of the biggest issues I've heard of when doing a JDM rear bumper is losing the protection of the crash beam. Plus having to jimmy up something to hold your licence plate. Then I happened to come across these guys on the web.

Has anybody heard of Afterhours Automotive? They look like they're putting out quality work, but didn't know if there are any other companies out there doing this either.

I didn't read all of it but how heavy is that?

_ronin_ May 15, 2009 09:30 AM

Just looking at it, I'd guess 20lbs give or take a few.

I read about this a few issues back in Turbo Magazine (R.I.P.). I don't even think it weighs 20 pounds! The company claims it is lighter than the stock one and is STRONGER too! I want to get it for my JDM Bumper!

WickedIXMR May 15, 2009 09:40 AM

I actually ordered one and its suppose to be here tomorrow. I think it only weighs like 10 pounds.

Sweet, let me know what you think. I might add this to my "must-purchase" list.

400$ haha,.... what a rip off. I could put that together in an hour for 50$ in materials.

dave_evolvix May 15, 2009 10:02 AM

They claim lightweight. I'd e-mail them for the precise weight.

Have you done it before? Will you do $150 shipped to NJ? :)

Not on an Evo, but I make parts like this for oem prototypes all the time.

I'm going to do mine when i get my "Go-fast" mods done.

I suggest anyone considering this just buy 400$ in welding equipment instead of wasting money on this.

NJ9MR May 15, 2009 10:06 AM

^ +11 I'd buy one too! (in NJ)

In all honesty, unless I'm going to race my car for $$$, whether it's 10lbs or 20lbs doesn't really matter. My butt's not going to feel that difference in weight.

I hear what you're saying though. Claiming "light-weight" chromoly steel is kind of vague.

I guess as long as it keeps you safer in a wreck it'd definitely be worth the money.

Heres the original thread on this peice.

I got it to lose weight as well as added insurance just incase I get rear ended and the insurance company screwing me over for not having a bumper support.

It was actually only 9 pounds.

Evo_46 May 15, 2009 10:58 AM

If it had ARC or Cusco Stamp on it your probably be paying $800 Plus come on people is a Bargain paying $400 for a bumper support tha will hold your JDM Bumper in place and i dont think any other company is making this kind of Support for the USDM EVO´s. Its just my Opinion

Evotech8 May 15, 2009 11:05 AM

Just putting it out there, you can just mod the oem crash beam to fit under the jdm bumper.
There's a how to somewhere...search.
