There are US models that came with the same brakes as the Grp N RS.

These are the brakes you want. I have this kit installed on my '06 RS.

AMS is working on a Rally Brake upgrade with big willwoods calipers. I've got one of the prototype kits on my car that I use for hillclimb & rally duty. They are much beefier than the oem RS stuff. Brake pads for it are cheap and many compounds are available, and you can get new rotors pretty cheap as well.

Its my understanding that none of the models of the Lancer come with the 'overseas RS' brakes. All Evo's come with 17s and the big brembos.

Were you talking about the RS brake kit or the one that AMS offers? I don't think AMS's kit is listed on their website. I'm running Compomotive TH3s 15x7 on my car and they are certainly the largest brakes you can squeeze under that particular wheel. I suspect if you're running Group N that you have to run a homologated brake kit, or are your options open?

That AMS "Lightweight brake kit" won't be good for your intended uses. AMS is getting ready to release another kit that will still fit under 15" wheels, but will have larger calipers and rotors that will be gravel rally friendly.

Any updates on the AMS kit? Or any other cost effective aftermarket solutions?

AMS came out with a Wilwood based kit for rally cars several years ago:

I've been using it on my evo since 2008 at dirt hillclimbs and rallysprints with good results.

Thanks Dave! I didn't make the connection when I read your name on AMS's site earlier. How are you liking the setup and what are you doing for your rear brakes? Congrats on the Pikes Peak wind a few years back!!! Thanks! - Rick
