Front Caliper discoloration?
Front Caliper discoloration?
Sorry if this topic has already been covered...
My right front caliper has a large blotchy discoloration which I just noticed this morning. I have not noticed any difference in the brakes performance - no squeal - no soft pedal. it just looks like a pigment change of some sort - almost bleaching. i'll have to learn how to upload pics so you can see what i'm referring to.
questions - has anyone else seen this on their (or other evos)? if so - did you investigate to determine cause?

funny you mention this. Just yesterday, I noticed the same on one of my calipers. instead of the glossy coat, there's a patch of dull red, as if the clear coat on the caliper had peeled off or something.

I've seen several cases where the clear cloat is flakin off the Brembos. In fact I know two people local to the Tampa area who got new calipers under warranty because of this same issue. Go do the dealer and have them start the process to get you some new calipers. It's definately an issue that mitsu is aware of. No TSB though, sorry.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I dont track my Evo.....Have only 7 k mls on it...and have the same problem.
As a matter of fact...my evo is garage kept and only driven on week-ends.
I took mine to Mitsu dealer and they ordered me new calipers...!
My advise if you have the same problem take it to the dealer.

I noticed this on my fr Rt cailper ( clear coat peeling ) also, and from what I could see it looked like brake fluid had leaked out from the bleeder valve. This is only on the front right side caliper like everyone else. I agree with siantjab that this should be brought to Mitsu's attention.
I just had some issues with bleeder valve leakage at a recent track day--I came into the pits and noticed some brake fluid on my left rear wheel, and it seemed to have come out of the outside bleeder valve. I double checked the valve, and it seemed to be on correctly (not too loose and not absurdly tight). I cleaned off the fluid, and stomped on the brake a few times and no fluid seemed to be coming out, so I though that maybe there had been some fluid under the cap that covers the bleeder valve. (I had recently gotten new pads installed at the dealer).
It seemed to be fine for a few more sessions, and then later in the day I found a little more "dribble" (although less than initially), and when I pried open the bleeder cover cap, I heard a little "hiss" of air for a moment. I've tracked the car quite a few times before with no problems of this kind, and I've definitely used them hard enough to boil the fluid on past occasions, which is why I switched to a high-temp (castrol) fluid. Has anyone seen this before? I don't really trust the mitsu dealer not to have overtorqued the bleeder valve or something--is there anything I can do to fix this? Since it seems to only manifest under repeated hard braking it would be very hard for a shop to duplicate it without access to a race track...
