Brake Problems

Hey guys,
I got some problems with the Evo after the last track day I joined.. Like about 12 hard laps the brakes on the evo just faded away.. and the was able to press the brake peddel to the end and it was barely slowing the car.. I went into the pits and rested the car for about 2 hours so that everything cools down getley . So I then started the car and pressed on the brake peddle and it almost goes to the end.. I though that the brake flud might be down.. I check and nope.. It was good. So I figured that the pads are gone.. I did not drive the car for the rest of the day so I did called a recovery car to take the car to the garage..
Took the car their and they checked the front and rear disc and they are good the only the rear pads needed to be changed the front are in good condition. When I left the garage I the brake peddle still goes down a lot and braking is not as strong as it use to.. I still did not take it back to the garage but I would like to know what is it from.. Any clue guys.. The brake flueid is ok. Please helpp..

Brake Problems

Sounds like your heating the calipers and rotors to the point you boiled the brake fluid and produced vapor that in turn caused the problem, ie fading. Switching to a higher boiling point brake fluid and bleeding the system should solve the problem. I assume you had the stock fluid. I use Castrol RF which has a very high boiling point but there are others less expensive such as ATE Blue.

Try bleeding the line. Most likely air bubbles formed inside. Re-check reservoir, just open the cover and look inside.

That might be the problem... I'll bleed the brakes today if I got time if not then I'll just send it off to the garage.
Thanks a lot guys

Gas bubbles in the fluid is a good possibility. Another is that you may have tapered your front pads. If a pad is thicker on one end than the other, the pistons need to move more before the pad fully contacts the rotor. This makes the pedal seem soft. This can go away with normal use of the the brakes, but it is better to replace the pads. I've never had this happen with the stock pads, but I do get a slight amount of tapering with DS2500 pads - not enough to worry about though.

I've had this tapering occur quite severely with other cars, but this doesn't seem to be a problem with the Evo Brembo brakes. It would depend on the kind of pads you use, though.

As everyone else has said, bleed your brakes and push some fresh fluid through. You probably boiled the fluid in your calipers, and your brakes won't feel right until you bleed both the inside and outside of all your calipers.

I haven't seen pad taper with the Evo, but I did manage to glaze a set of pads once. If glazing was your problem your mechanic should have mentioned it.

I and others have posted the correct bleeding order (and ABS instructions) from the manual before so it should be available with a search.
