It's starting to get cold when to put the winter tires on?

i live in the northeast and the temp starting to drop into the 40s at night and only 60s and 70's during the day. When is it time to put the winter tires on? When it gets cold or when it is going to snow? The only reason i say this is the other night after work i was taking the off ramp leading to my apt. My @ss end started to slide and my tires where screeching very bad . i wasn't taking the off ramp any faster then i normaly do, it was just colder out i think it was in the high 40s. i have snow tires i just would like some input when to put them on.

thanks

Usually we say Thanksgiving to tax season. This approximate fourto five month period represents the ideal time for winter tire use in many parts of the United States. Its in temps below 30 deg when a performance summer tire really turns hard and winter tires like to start performing.

many people run an all season tire like the Conti Extreme. But nothing will provide the level of snow traction like a dedicated winter tire. not everyones driving environment can warrant using a dedicated winter tire.

I will be putting my Blizzak LM 22's on real soon only because my stock tires are used up after my latest track session and I do not want to spring for performance tires at this point in the season.

The advan's aren't supposed to be used under 40F so I would change accordingly
