Brakes Squeaking
Hi ya'll
I've did a search and can't find what I was looking for.
I have had my 05 EVO for 3-4 weeks now, and about 2-3 weeks ago, i notice the brakes squeaking a bit when i'm coming to a slow stop. I figured it was nothing much, cause brakes are new, and it's just breaking in. However, it's getting to a point where it's really loud and it does not seem to go away.
I've tried to brake hard a couple of times to see if it will go away (when braking hard it does not squeak) but after tha hard brake I tried another soft brake and it's still there.
It's the right front brakes, it sounds like metal to metal...anyone got any suggestions? or comments?
the reason i'm asking and not bring it to the dealer is cause I just don't have the time at this moment.
Thanks in an advance.

I had the same problems at around 700mi. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't "reproduce" the noise I was talking about and took off the tires and inspected the brakes. Still no explanation. Then they gave me a techincal bulletin about some junk that was not even relevant to what I was experiencing. I just learned to live withh it as it doesn't affect braking performance. I hope I am not doing long term damage. At least the dealer has it in their notes that I took it in for that.
My brakes squealed initially. After the brake-in period and after putting some real heat into the brakes, everything became silent. Give it some time, it might just clear up itself.
A common annyonance w/ Evo. My 04 RS does this when brakes are heated. Squeaks like pigs having orgasm, right before it comes to stop. It still does to this date!
A solution is to apply high temp silicon grease to the front pads where it make any contacts to calipar or brake holding springs, top, side, bottom...This quiets them down for about a month then it starts all over. Hmmm, grease them reqularly.
This ain't no Oldsmobile!!!

Check the surface of the rotor for any grooving...I had an 03 GSR, never any squealing...but my 05 MR did exactly what you are describing...
Took it in to the
dealer...there was grooving on one rotor...looked like something had gotten caught in between the pad....anyhoo...they took it off and resurfaced the rotor...no more squealing...
Dealer says if it returns they will replace the rotor and pad....
No way I was going to be able to hang with that noise....

05 same here.
My 05 does the same after I have made a few good stops. Sounds like I have some serious performance brakes on the car....oh wait I think I do???
It is not quite the grinding of metal to metal, but it does sound like a bus.

my 05 did the same thing in the beginning- actually, i got mine shipped from cali and when i picked it up it had only 13 miles on it. When i drove off of the dock, and onto the highway, i noticed that the brakes hadn't been bedded in cause i almost crashed. I promptly took it to an open area and did 3 stops from 60-0 to break them in... now my only problem is that there seems to be 1 inch of play on my break pedal before my break lights come on. I am worried that someone will rear end me... does anyone else have that problem too????

I noticed the brakelights were not coming on unless I pressed the pedel well beyond the point of pad bite when I was backing out of the driveway three days ago.
Me too, i'm hoping that after there is a little wear on the pads, then it might work out o.k. I just a little freakish cause when my truck was brand new(paper plates) someone rear ended me, actually i got rear ended twice in my truck, so i'm always looking back at people, ready to accelerate. I always seem to get hit when i'm first in line at a red light.
oh forgot, if i have enough room and going slow enough, i can actually bring the car to a complete stop w/o my break lights going on. i noticed this at night when i could see the reflection of the light on the spoiler. I'm worried about getting hit in stop and go traffic.
