whats the point?

aight, there are quite a few guys on here that have 18's... now, their rims are also 9" wide, but they are running a 235 tire... whats the point by running a 9 inch wide rim when your running a tire that could be put on a 7.5 inch rim? shouldn't you use a tire that better suited for your bigger, wider rim?

i was looking at something around 265/40/18 or bigger.... anyone running a wide tire to compliment their wide rim?

I think there's a benefit from having a little extra tire... I remember hearing something of the sort a while back. Hopefully somebody will comment.

Yes, I am as well interested in this. I always assumed that stretching a tire like that was kind of dumb. Won't it weaken the tire life?

I don't think he's talkin' about stretching a tire, but rather buying a wider tire than the rim itself. Maybe it acts as a cushion and hugs the rim better which causes more traction?

Oh wait, he is talking about a smaller tire.

no no... generally, as you increase the width of the rim, you increase the width of your tire as well... in the case i was stating, people are going the other way... using a wider rim, but getting a narrower tire...

some prefer a wheel with a deeper dish look and a larger tire may have clearance issues compared to a smaller 235. For a track car the larger wheel/smaller tire can be run at a lower pressure because the larger wheel provides more sidewall support. The lower pressure provides more tunabilty. The tire manufactuer specs should always be used. But I see a lot of stupid wheel/tire combos, why, when something makes no sense, look at the money.
