Different Tires? help

Ive got about 7k miles on my evo. I need new tires (thinking of toyo proxes 4), but i dont know if i should get 2 or 4. My fronts are too worn, and the rears can still be used.

Ive been wondering if it is bad for a car to have 2 different types of tires on it (in my case i would move the rear stock yoko A046 to the front, and put new proxes 4 on the back)

And advice? or any suggestions on different tires? the only serious racing i do would be on a drag strip, otherwise its mostly just a daily driver

(I love performance, but the yokohamas wear too quickly for the cost ($218).....at least it was fun while they lasted...)

oh yeah, when you get new tires, do you need to have them balanced and aligned again?

THANKS!

Mi Amigo,
Welcome to EvoM. There are many posts on tire options. Make use of the search feature at the top of the forum index and you are likely to find info on any tire that can be fitted to the Evo. As far as only replacing two of the four, it depends on how much is left on your old ones. Common wisdom around here seems to indicate that having tires with much different diameters can mess with the differentials. Using two different types of tires may result in some unpredictable handling situations due to the amount of grip you would end up with at each end of the car. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone try that here on the boards. I would get 4 if you are going to get new tires.

It would of course be highly advisable to get your tires balanced when you get them mounted. That is standard for most tire shops. I would recommend getting the high speed balance. My Evo runs nice and smooth with it. An alignment is also good when you get new tires. Once again, have someone good do it. The Evo is made for handling and it is a shame to have that messed up do to poor work.

Best wishes and welcome,
