wheels for my vi rs?
Hello All,
I recenlty drove my lancer off the road, and cracked one of my rims beyond repair. They are 16" wheels, and for cosmetic reasons, I have been wanting to get a set of 17" or 18" wheels anyways, so I have decided to get a whole new set now.
In general I like a sport/rally looking wheel. The car is white, and I would like to get some simple, sporty, white rims. I live in Antigua, a country in the Caribbean, and the roads can be pretty bad, so would say strength is more important than weight.
I really like SSR rims, but have had a real hard time locating a reseller for them. This is the SSR rim I like:

Also, some OZ wheels look good. I really like the white rims you see on the WRC cars. I think they kind of look like this one:

What would you all recommend in terms of size? I'm real excited to go from 16 to 17, would 18 look even better? I guess my choice is 17x45 or 18x40? Would the 40 profile be a lot rougher?
Also, it seems in many case I can choose a width of the wheel. Like 17x7, 17x8, 17x8.5. How do I choose?
Also, any other tips about fitment? I know I have to get the right offset. Is the offset different for the rs than the gsr? Is that cuz of the brake differences? What is the offset a measurement of?
I guess that is all. Thanks so much for your time. I'm hoping you I get some good advice, and some recommendations on resellers on the states, that I could easily have them ship to the caribbean.
Thanks again.
Brandon

Hi Brandon
What car do you have?
If the roads are bad, stay with higher profile, just get a better stiffer tyre.
Offset is the distance between the middle of the wheel (looking at the wheel from the back of the car) and the facing plate where the wheel touches the hub. This distances is expressed in mm. For an Evo, the right offset is 38mm for Evo 5 and 6 and I think 35mm for a 7 (not sure).
