Discussion for those with Ohlins

A number of us have purchased the Ohlin road and track suspension set-up. It would be helpful to hear what seems to be working well and what is not. If anyone believes that they have "dialed it in" and would like to share their ideas, I know that I would be interested (spring rates, ride height, suspension settings, wheels and tires).

I will go first. I have 350f/450r, -2 rear camber and -2.5 front camber. I run the micheline pilot sport cup tires (255/40/17).

My gripe is that the car is light in the rear on the fast sections of the track (added the vortex generator, not much help) and I am cording the tires on the sidewall.

450f/650r, -3.0f/-1.5r, 0f (full stiff), 9-11r (depending on how much caffeine I've had) Hotchkiss 25mm hollow rear bar at full stiff. Those settings work for transition/autox, even though the rears are woefully underdamped, I can't run full stiff in the rear without pattering/twitchiness. Still working on mid-corner push.

I know this thread was a year old but:

8/7 kg f/r (450/400 f/r). Camber = -1.25 or -2.5 F, -1.0 R, Ride height is 350mm F, 335mm R measuring from the wheel center to the fendor. 0 toe front, 2 mm toe in the rear. Perrin 25mm sway bar, Front LSD. What's other's ride heights?

As of November (or maybe October) 2005 Ohlins added a helper spring and increased the max damping on the R&T. According to them it should be able to handle 750lbs/in now. I have the newer ones and they have no problem damping my 571f/500r. I'm running -2.5/-1.5 0 toe, 25mm bar on the middle setting, and I have yet to measure the ride height yet but I know it's about 1" lower in the front and 0.75" lower in the rear.

It's not surprising that you're light in the rear; look at the f/r spring rate ratio (350/450 = 0.78), especially for a car with 60/40 weight distrubution. I started with 571/457 and had a bit too much understeer in downhill off-to-mild throttle corners (T2 at Laguna, T6 at Sears). Upping the rear rate to 500 helped but now the car is a bit too stiff for much non-track use. After Thunderhill I will re-evalute my rates and possibly drop down to 500/457 depending on how the car feels.

Also note that running a front LSD allows you to run a higher front rate because it will reduce corner-exit understeer.

If you want to revalve Works is now certified to do so.
