Torque on wheel nuts

Okay, b4 I get flamed, I tried a few searches on what torque to put on my wheel nuts when I do my first rotation of the advans, but to no avail. Using wheel or torque in the search leads to lots of stuff.

Any body got the ftlb number? Also, should I use antiseize compound?

I didnt see it in the manual, but if it is please direct me.

Yeah, 80 ft-lbs is what I usually do.

However, check it again after your first drive around the block. In some rare cases, the wheel is not completely seated and while the lugs seems to tighten, they work loose after some driving. It's only happened to me once (on my old car), but I caught it right away and retightened.

AC

I think the manual spec's about 73 ft-lbs. I have a habit using 80ft-lbs. Thats what the spec always was for my Honda's (same lug size).

I have never owned a torque wrench so this might be a good time to ask: what is the harm in over-torque? I mean with under-torque the wheel nuts might fall off, but if you just tighten it enough isn't that good enough? I have always done it by hand for years and years and I have never lost a wheel nut or have had any trouble. Can someone enlighten me?

over torque can be very bad.... replacing stripped wheel studs from your hub is not fun.

over torqueing can snap wheel studs and warp rotors.

It depends on the air gun. I have 2 Ingersoll Rand impacts. One of them is strong as hell. I never use a impact on my rims, too much torque to cause alot of problems down the road.
