Exclamation Problems with Hawks HPS during gingerman.

I had some hawks HPS pads put onto my evo by a shop and during gingerman they were making a high pitched squeek... It wasnt like normal squeeking but the frequency sounded much higher. The brakes felt good and I was braking well but i thought these pads werent supposed to squeek? It squeeked a bit when I started out but seemed to stop after they warmed up a bit, but would randomly reappear(at least so it seemd to me).

And another problem is on the 3rd session my instructor who was spectating said that my brakes were letting out sparks...which i'm pretty concerned about.

Thanks, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Did you bed them correctly? did you re-use the stock shims? did you grease them well?
There are a few possibilities of why it's doing that. I'd say re-check the install. Pad replacement on the Evo is so damn easy, your kid can do it.

It is funny I was just running a search because I have the same problem. I just put Hawk HPS pads on the front of my car today. I am getting that real high loud squeek also. I reused the factory shims and greased everything. The only thing I could come up with is maybe these pads are a little bigger than the stock ones. The reason I say that is because when looking through my rims down towards the hub I notice a little lip that sticks out that is real shiny. Alsmost looks like the old pad didn't make contact there. Maybe you have the same issue? Let me know what you find out.

Under normal driving conditions I get no squeek. So glgz I think we have 2 different situations here. Works perfectly fine and I can brake from any speed to a stop with no sound.

However it was at gingerman where I was braking from like 90-40 very hard it would make a horrible, high high pitched squeek. I guess after heating them up a bit they squeeked, but then after they got really hot they stopped squeeking so much. It was not really reproduceable under controlled conditions. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes not, but the pitch was always very high.
Thats really all I can describe it as...sounds pretty stupid since what i'm really saying is"theres a noise and I don't know how to cause it". Right now driving around normally is fine, just when I was at the track it made alot of noise.

I can say that the brakes werent really bedded in though. I know alot of sites say to do like a bunch of high speed braking to properly bed the pads in, but I just drove them normally(as the shop said) and now looking at my rotors there's some residue. Perhaps the squeek was from bedding them..or since they werent bedded in?

Anywho, about those SPARKS. As I said the instructor said that my brakes were throwin out sparks on the harder turns...anyone have some idea on whats going on with that? Ive never heard of brakes giving out sparks and that has me worried...

Not sure on the sparks. If there is any little rust flakes in the cooling tunnels of the rotor they may have gotten red hot and broke loose while you were breaking. May give the illusion that sparks were flying.

I've ran my G35 with Brembos/HPS pads at Gingerman many times. I've gotten the occasional squeak as well. In all honestly they are meant as a street pad, not so much a track pad. Your really putting them thru a rough process on a track like Gingerman with all the tight turns and down hill driving (especially that downhill going into turn 3 ). I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. Majority of the squeak is caused by the pad vibrating against the caliper.

Might want to check out the HP pads next season. You'll be amazed by the increased breaking at higher temps!

Sounds like Hawk Blues after they get warmed up. High pitched squeel, like most track pads, and sparks. I actually like the squeel. On the in-car video I can tell exactly when I start braking by the sound.
