265'S on stock wheels......?

Does anyone run 265/40ZR17 tires on the stock wheels or 265/35ZR17's?

Wondering if they would rub or not. I run 255/40ZR17 on the stockers and no rubbing issues at all. I'm even lowered on Hotchkis Springs.

Thanks in advance.

im suprised 255 fit without rubbing, prety neato though, while on the topic whats the widest tire/rim combo you can put without modding (other then maybe rolling the fenders)

Yeah, the 255's look pretty nice. I do get alot of compliments on them. It gives a tough look to the Evo. The 235/45's are a little too tall and narrow for my liking. I like the smaller sidewall and wider look myself. But, to all it's own. I'm actually looking at going with 17x9's and the another set of 255's for the track. I had my alignment done here at Acura where I work and set up for the track with some oversteer. The only thing is that my inside tread is scalloped a bit, but the tread is evenly worn.

With the right offset on the wheel, you can fit a 265 and some wheels you can fit a 275. I've even seen 285's on some iForged & Fikse Wheels on the track.

I wouldn't go wider than 255 on the stock wheel. You can do those 265s on a 17x9 though.

I really doubt you can fit a 275 or 285 on an EVO without rolling the rear fenders. The 255s I have on my car are a pretty close fit.

It's all about the rim width and offset. I was running 255s on my 17X8.5 volks with a +30 offset and the rears rubbed. I had to have the lip in the rear fenderwell cut away to make them stop rubbing.

I run the Yoko AVS ES100's, what are you running currently? I'm looking for another set, possibly looking to switch brands as well. These have lasted about 22K miles.

235/45 is most likely the best size for overall performance for the stock rim. I'd have to say if you used the same evo with stock rims with the same tires in 235/45 and 255/40, i bet the 235/45 would perform better overall. maybe the 255's might shine in one aspect, but i'd think they would fall extremely short in another. I might do 245/45 on my stock rims for winter just to get a little more contact patch, but running oversized tires just doesnt sound like it would increase performance. I envision sidewalls rolling on hard turns.

235 x .45=105.3mm
255 x .40=102mm

They're the same height, it's only width that is different.

255/40R17 IS NOT AN APPROVED FITMENT FOR 8" RIMS

Check your driver's side inner splash shield. I've seen several evos using 255s on stock wheels w/ no spacers rub in that area.

My inner wheel well liner is fine b/c I cut away all except the top portion. I meant to say that the tires look taller b/c they are narrower. It just looks meaner with a little more meat under the fender-well. I do have to admit, I do have more oversteer which is what I wanted, but the inner tread is feathered a bit. So I flipped them lastnight of the stockies and vibration has stopped as expected and she drives smooth once again. I am looking for other tires that maybe will give me a little more life, poss. 30K miles?

I hope u do realize you want a NARROW contact path for winter driving, not wide. . .more in contact means more to slide with. . .this is a well known fact btw. . .stick with 235/45 in the winter. . .and I agree with the stock size comment, why upsize when the 235/45's can pull nearly 1g??

I don't know where your living, but in North Texas, we hardly have a winter. So for me buying winter tires is kinda dumb. I'm not spending $600 for a month that we might have a little sleet or maybe an inch of snow on the ground. Plus, last year in the winter when we had, I think it was like 80 degrees in the afternoon the same day it snowed and was 28 degrees that same morning. Texas weather is weird. If you blink, it could drop in temp. 10 or more degrees or rise.
