to the guys who are talking about the WS-50s performing like crap in the dry are you talking about trying to drive aggressive or just doing normal highway driving?
I plan tu purchase these tires but I will be doing A LOT of highway travel, between 800-1000 miles per week. I am aware that these tires will not last me more then a season at that rate but I don't intend to drive aggressive at all, just want the best traction for highway.

If you can deal with it go for it but i'm saying if you just turn the steering wheel left and right on the highway at let's say 55mph you will feel the car swaying. And will also feel it with gusts of wind.
Best winter tire out there that fit out car as far as studless winter/ice tire that fits our car bar none!
I just bought a set and mounted them on a new set of ENKEI stock wheels that I picked up on Evom and it's the best investment I made since I live in Minnesota and we get a ton of snow/ice.
BTW, they don't have as much side roll as I thought they would since they are identical in size to the stock Advans.

Who in the heck is making a high speed turn at 80mph in the snow anyway or for that matter on ice? The idea is to get the best tire available to get through whatever weather is thrown at you.
You buy a snow tire for the inclimate weather, not to zip around turns at 65mph down on offramp.
If you get a TON of snow, light snow or black ice, the WS-50s are the tire to have then, forget the stopping capability of the LM-22 on ice...there is NO comparison.

At times, I drive as fast as I feel is prudent in all conditions. I'm sure other people do as well. I for one, didn't buy my EVO to put-put around when the surface is less than perfect. If that was the case I probably would have bought a RWD car. I live in the mountains and have snow on the ground (at least some days) 7 months out of the year and even in the summer I regularly drive on gravel. IMHO the best thing about the EVO is its ability to handle compromised surfaces.
I have several sets of tires for different conditions, track, street, rally cross and winter. For snow & ice I use Pirelli Snow Sport 240's. They are availible in 235/45/17 and are one of the few true snow tires with a V speed rating. They have excellent straight line, braking and high speed cornering traction in the snow. They have plenty of traction to snow plow through deep sh*t. I have managed to go 0-100mph in 17 seconds in 2 inches of snow over an icy/gravel base. I have driven on good hard pack at 130mph and felt very secure and 155 on dry without significant tire wiggle. On pure ice, for cornering and braking they are almost as good as a studded tire and are better in acceleration. They do very well on dry pavement, but clearly do not have as high of an ultimate limit as something like the stock yokes. My only 2 complaints is they are marginal on hard pack or ice for sharp corners ( but then again, if you want to push it all you have to do is hang the *** out a bit and rocket forward, the evo is made for that IMO) and at the limit on a corner they don't give much feed back.
Be safe

The tire reviews and tests don't agree with you conclusion that the Pirelli Snow Sport 240's are the best tire especially in heavy snow and ice conditions.
I don't know if I'd be wearing a badge on my chest for driving 130mph in the packed snow, I don't find too many redeming qualities with that on the public roads, and yes I realize you were just trying to point out your observation.
It may be the best 'sport tire' out there, but comparing it to a studless ice/snow tire is comparing apples/oranges. It's a sport tire not a 'studless' snow and ice tire like a ws-50, so not to belabor the point but your analysis is not correct.

Markeddy, I hear you on the 130mph on a public road thing. It was truely in the middle of nowhere on a perfect stretch of road, open fields on both sides and nobody around for miles & miles. But I get your point anyway and thanks for suggesting that I was not trying to chest beat. I wasn't.
I am confused though; this
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....+240+SnowSport
seems to say that they are indeed "studless snow tires" That is what I thought. Am I wrong???
My review is, of course only my opinion; without direct comparison. I also have a 4WD Bronco with limited slip rear and aftermarket real locking front hubs running very aggresive studded tires...and the EVO has better traction in everything but deep deep snow.
Peace - steve
