Remember the sticker that came on the door of your car?

Do NOT even think about trying to drive the Advans in the snow. I got stuck once in a cold rain (snow melting on contact) with the Advans. What a wild ride. Never again.

It's not just the snow: Advans below 40F are like Fred Flintstone's tires: pure granite.

I picked up a set of ASA 17x7.5 rims and Nokian WRs in 225/45-17 for Massachusetts winters. In 8+ inches (20cm) of snow, they're spectacular. A snow equipped EVO in a blizzard is a blast. With the narrower width and "extended range" VR compound, they're a bit disappointing on surface ice, though.

Now that I've moved further south, I'd probably stick with the stock size and go with one of the LMs for mostly dry or ice. (And for these bizzaro concrete intersections between asphalt roads -- whatinheck were they thinking? Talk about having your traction pulled out from under you ...)

For the other car (that doesn't get driven in the snow), I'm thinking PZero M+S for the months too cold for the S03s. (If I can find room in the garage for another set of off season rims. )

Hint: Old pizza boxes are handy spacers for stacking off-season tires/rims.
(Just remember to throw away any old crusts first. )
