Rotor question

So how often should rotors be replaced? I have approx 50,000 miles on my car and i have replaced the brakes once already, didnt do the rotors then (no need) and I am figuring I am going to be due for pads again soon. What is the likelyhood im going to need rotors? I have 0 noise & no indication that I even need breaks, I just try to keep ahead on maintance. Any thoughts would be appreicated!

I'd bet that they won't be able to be turned. Most rotors on modern cars do not have near as much meat on them from the factory as they used to. Typically they have less than the minimum thickness by approx. 15-20K miles. I'd stop by a local auto parts store and see if they have the minimum thickness specs in the computer, then have them walk out with a micrometer and check yours. When I worked at O'Reillys years ago, everyday I would have to explain to customers that I could not turn their rotors due to liability even though they only had 10-20K miles on them.

I turned my rotors 3 times, still within the saftey margin (thickness) before I got new OEM rotors. turned them within 40K miles.

I have also done mine about 3 times. That is not true about rotors not having enough "meat" on them like they used to. Especially sport rotors like the Brembos the Evo comes with.

I guess that's two confirmations so I can conclude I was wrong about the rotors on the evo. That is good to hear though.

as long as your car isn't getting that little shake when you hit the brakes you rotors don't need to be turned. I have had me rotors tuned once. The fellow who did it said that they could be turned 2-3 more time before needing to be replaced

well, i was told that i needed new rotors(they couldn't be resurfaced) by my auto shop after 20k. i still haven't replaced them yet, though, at 26k. btw, this is without aggressive braking. mostly bumper to bumper traffic on freeways.

Makes you wonder how reputable that shop was...

According to the shop manual, the minimum rotor thicknesses are:

Front - 29.8mm or 1.17"
Rear - 20.8mm or 0.80"

How far below the minumum thickness do people normally go?

Well the whole point is to not go under the minimum thickness. Once you hit that it is time to change them.
