longer lasting tires

Stock tires suck as far as wear, stickey yeah longevity no. I have 9000 miles on my tires and they look like they have 30000 miles on them air pressure kept up. Rotated them twice and still they wear Quick . I know they are a soft compound tire but can anyone tell me a better tire for the evo. One that is longer lasting and still have good performance and looks good thanks for any suggestions. already done the search didi not find what I was looking for..............

I have the Kuhmo Ecsta MX. They are a bit cheaper at 120 a piece. I have a just about 15k on them and they still have more than half of their tread left.

they are very soft so yes they will wear fast.... there are a bunch cheap tires like the MX and the yoko ES100s that are in the 100-150 range and they all grip a lot worse but last a lot longer. then you have the $150-200 range with tires like the bridgestone S0-3 and the Mich. PS2 which fall somewhere in the middle. it all depends on your needs.

I'm running the Khumo ASX tires and they rock. They are MUCH better in cooler weather compared to the Advans. I think the treadwear is 420 or so. I think I got away with 14,000 miles on the Advans before one of them blew out from excessive wear on the inside of the tire. The EVO has some serious camber so the inside of the tire tells a different story than the outside.

yeah tried the tire forum nothing to my liking but really no more than 200 each read as much as I could find but looking for as much input as possible. I want lower noise and better wear with a little compromise for handling would be okay.

I actually had my tires unmounted and flipped around at just over 10K as the inside edge was worn down significantly. Considering I've put that mileage on the car since September, I'll be going with something that wears a bit better next time around. Many of the tires I'd like to try don't come in the stock size unfortunately. It's real hit or miss.

dude i'm not trying to give you a hard time but what you just said is verrrry misleading. Your talking about a tire with a tread wear of 420 and swearing that it is a great tire......But great to WHO????

420 would get me killed, I have the Ecsta MX's they are 220's, I think those are a happy medium, but even with a tread wear of 220 I can get the *** end to slide in corners over 50mph, Unlike the stock advans that stick. sorry for the run on sentence.

ideally, no matter what your set-up, if you push the car ever, you need two sets. i have a set of falken ziex 512's that were dirt cheap ($104 each i think) that do well in the rain (oregon coast) and do decent in light ice and snow. sure they dont perform like the advans, but they do the job in the winter time, when i rarely ever push the car to the handling limits. i will probably buy another semi race tire for use whenever i go auto X, or for great summer weather.

I have the BF Good G-force Sport and they are holding up great as a street tire. I have advan's for my track tires. My review

I use these as my daily driving tires. I drive FAST! These tires only have one weakness... Noise. If they were quiet they would be perfect. But they have a little bit of road noise. They grip great and corner just fine. No problem in the rain. Oh, we dont get too much snow in South Louisiana. So, I dont know how they do. On an AWD car putting 350+ AWHP to the wheels they spin on launch a bit, but catch traction pretty quick. -- Review Submitted 2005-09-29

evo tires

For the stock size, I went to the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. Has a treadwear of 220 vs 160 for the Advan, so the handling will not be quite as good (guess) and tread life will be better. Cost $187 ea vs $246 ea for the Advan. No tire noise on the PSa's which agravated the hell out of me with the Advans. Have not had them on the track (road courses), so can't tell you about their handling characteristics at the extreme. If you want out and out performance on the track then get "R" compond tires on an extra set of rims as others have suggested, otherwise the extra handling edge is wasted on the street, assuming you have already changed your springs and sway bar and alignment.

Like others have already said, get your alignment fixed. No set of tires will last you long if you got too much toe out. Toe always wears your tires down way faster than camber.

I'm at 23k miles on my stock advans right now. They should last me til about 24-25k. They probably would have lasted longer if I kept a more conservative alignment setting and didn't do any auto-x's and track events.
