Will this work?????
Will this work?????
For autox, I want to get OZ Superleggeras in 17 x 8 and a 40 mm offset with 255/40 17 Kuhmo Victoracer tires. I don't want to buy these if I have to use spacers, because the wheels may become my everyday wheels in the future. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi Trbo Dad
I know people with Superleggeras on Evo 6s. The offset isnt right and they needed spacers. Only 3 mm spacers, but still spacers. I think the offset was 40 or 42 and width 8 inches, but I'm not sure, so I didnt reply.
I doubt you will get away with 40 mm offset as far as caliper clearance in the front is concerned; also remember you would end up with slightly narrower tracks (less stability, although this is minimal in this case).
255 is definitely too wide for 8 inch wide rims. You really want the wheel to be 80 - 90% of the width of the tire. You could squeeze a 255 on there, but it would probably rub in the arches and the sidewall would be far too soft. It would look weird, too.
My personal recommendation for wheels and tyres:
- go for 17 x 8 with 35 mm offset
- get the lightest wheel you can afford
- get the stickiest and lightest tires in 225x45/17
- get lightweight lug nuts (I lost 2.5 lbs of unsprung weight by changing all 20 on the car)
