Noob tire?

What is the best tire for the stock wheel? I do more drag racing than road racing but i want some thing that can handle corners also?

Thanks in advance.

so you want track tires or street tires that can be used occasionally on the track. I am venturing to say that you take it to a 1/4 track right?

michelin ps2, goodyear f1 GSD3, toyo RA1, etc. etc.. the toyo,s are more like an auto x tire and will wear faster than the others, but the others i mentioned have enuf track bite and handle daily driving dry or wet superbly and will last twice as long as the toyo,s its up to you good luck. btw i have experience with all the tires i,ve mentioned. if it were me i,d go with the PS2,s

Don't use the Toyo RA1's for Autocross... If you have tried this Danny, then you must run very long Autox courses, the RA1s require amounts of heat far higher than most Autox can provide in order to get sticky (however, once they hit that point, they rock)

I like my Hankook Ventus K104s

The Toyo's ARE a R compund tire. They arent a street tire like the rest of them are. I had okay success with some Ventus 104's when I first got my WRX along time ago, but they didnt have the level of grip that I was looking for. Pilot Sports will work but are a little spendy. What size tire do you want to go on these stock wheels of yours?

your right i should have mentioned the RA1,s need to be warmed up real good to get the full benefit out of the tire. but once they,re hot they stick like glue

toyo is an autocross tire???????? have you ever been to autocross?????? there's hardly anyone that runs ra1s at autocross... they're all on khumos or falkens and the occational zealous type will have hankooks. the people that are at autocross with ra1s most likely track race.

for clarification, even tho in the first three pages of this forum there are multiple pages referencing toyo ra1s. the toyo ra1 is a cheap track junkie tire, it provides great fast warm up, very good wear and some of the best shaved grip that dot approved r compound tires can provide. there are very few treaded tires that can match the ra1 and there's NOTHING that can beat it in terms of value for the price.

now if you want a tire that is good on the street, fast in the corners and damn good for a drag run then pick the falken rt615 (this actually IS an autocross tire). why? cuz it wears well, it is basically a maximum performance summer tire, it has decent water evacuation, it has very stiff sidewalls and it comes in convenient sizes for 17s, less convenient for 18s. it's also cheap. since you don't track you will not have to worry about long term heating which is why autox guys cool these tires with water between runs. if you're not visiting the roadrace track then you don't have to worry about this.

the other recommendations in the quote are ok too, but will most likely run you more money. and if you're gonna pay for rcomps and deal with the short tire life, tehn you might as well get ra1s

untrue!, autocross puts a disgusting amount of heat into a tire in a very short amount of time ESPECIALLY the short ones, why? cuz everything is a transition. the thing that makes rcomps different is that they last in teh heat LONGER, whereas your normal rt615 autox junkie tire fades and greases. i have rcomps on my car and i put enough heat into them to chunk, and enough for them to be out of thier optimum heat range, is this bad for them? the chunking yes... the heat... not so much, but i can go out to the track with them later whereas you can't do the same with the autox tire. so why run an autox tire? cuz they're cheaper and if you're wearin' out tires by skippin' around cones all, cheaper is better.

Sorry but I think nothing beats the stock Advans for the money. Now if you want a lesser tire be it wear or traction both can be found for less but none for the same amount. You get what you pay for!
I cant see a 1.6 60' time being bad and have rarely seen better out of any Evo out of the hole.
Good luck in your choice but since I got my 1st Evo in 03 every Evo owner I have met that has gone to another brand has said. Yeah there ok but there not as good as the Advans where.
