Need opinion on suspension setup
Need opinion on suspension setup
When first driving my car, my first impressions were, "this car couldn't handle any better", well just recently I took a trip to "Tail of the Dragon". Lets just say, the car didn't perform as well as I thought it would. With this in mind, I am looking for a new setup that will increase performance and decrease body roll in mountainous conditions / auto-x.
What spring / sway bar combo would you recommend that would significantly reduce body roll, minimize rear tire lift, and basically keep me planted on the ground?
I understand that coilovers perform the best, however at this point in time my funds aren't that great.
Thanks in advance.
edit: I have a few choices for springs: RSR Ti2000, Espelir GT, Tanabe GP210

Stock springs/any rear sway/good aggressive negative camber alignment
People have been blown away by what you can do with just a rear sway and aggressive alignment. Just ask anyone who got it done at Road Race Chassis.
Almost all aftermarket springs limit suspension travel too much to be useful.

for the 3 evo, there was a world of difference with a 25mm rear sway bar set full stiff, espelir GT springs, bump steer correction, stiff bushings, alignment. like a new car.
at least with the 03 evo's, the car was actually designed for stiffer springs.
talk to robi (robispec) about his budget package.

what's most important at autocross is to remove as much of hte tire roll over as possible. this is done with camber. i'd say it's a waste to get springs and camber plates.
so this is what i recommend. get as much camber as you can from the stock pieces (read aggressive alignment) after you get a rear sway bar (progressive has been proven) and more stiff rear trail arm bushings (energy suspension).
then save, until you can afford a proper set of coilovers, when i say proper i mean r&d was put into it.
people that offer proper coilovers include, roadrace chassis aka john mueller, aka muellerized aka roadrace engineering, they offer ANY respectable coilover.
paul gerrard who works with vishnu tuning with the specialized ohlins.
robispec aka robi who specializes in the dms suspensions.
of course mueller specializes and has tested and proven spring and damper rates for all of the above mentioned suspensions but i gave more options in case location and place in line is a problem.
also... invest in more tarmac time, don't let the car do all the driving.

thanks for the replies. I know that I probably will not be satisfied with just swapping springs, so I will invest in some coilovers. For the time being, I'll get a rear sway bar and rear trail arm bushings. I will also need to find a good alignment shop around Atlanta.
