MR Bilstein's on 03 Evo

Hi guys.

I know some of you have mentioned that you'd like a review of someone who has added the MR bilsteins to a non-MR EVO. Well, after 85000 rounds my stockers were completely de-gassed and the roads around here were feeling like going sideways across corn stubble. Bought a set here and installed them.

Initial observations are: No problems with fitment. The ride quality is obviously greatly improved from my worn-out stockers, but if I recall these seem to hold the road a little better at high speed. Especially since quite a few of the surfaces around here are pretty beat up from winter stress. Once I get my new wheels/tires, I'll be able to give a better high performance review. So far, I think it's worth the extra cash for the ride quality, we'll see if performance improves later.

What springs are you using with the Bilsteins?

Using the entire Bilstein setup w/ springs and mounts. As a side note I also painted my struts and brake calipers black. Going for the stealth look. I'm committed to remaining ticket free. A set of royal black rota slipstreams with Sumitomo HTR Z's going on next week.

I just bought a set of MR Bilsteins recently as well, and I opted for the WORKS ride springs. I just switched the springs tonight, but I still have to put the strut assemblies in the car. The ride and handling are supposed to be far superior to the stock KYBs that come on the 03, so I can't wait !!!! I'll report after I get them installed. I also got the rear sway bar too, so that will make a difference. Have fun!

Thumbs up

OK...so the MR suspension with the WORKS ride springs is on the car. I have to get an alignment still, but first impressions are excellent. I did not measure the stock ride height before I changed the suspension, I should have. It seems lower than 1 inch below stock. I also cut about one inch off the bumpstops, which is stated in the install directions. I would like to know how much the damper has to be compressed before it hits the stops. I put the arrows out on the eccentric bolts for the front struts too. The car feels like it has quite a bit of toe out now, but that may be the extra camber. The steering wheel is still perfectly straight and it does not pull at all. The ride is much better than the KYBs, but it feels like the car lost a little of it's "razor" steering. I also have Kuhmo Ecsta MXs on the car, and they may have a tendency to roll due to the single ply sidewalls. I would be interested to see what it feels like with the Advans back on there. I also put the Works rear bar on, in the middle hole. All this is still new to me, and I should not get too crazy until I get the alignment done. I still have to install my croxx plate too, so that may stiffen things up a bit as well. I will post back when things are all set up. I am going to call Works for the best settings on the alignment, they already told me but I forgot to write them down. Overall, good mod for the money, I would recommend the MR Bilsteins for those who aren't sure about coilovers.
