Problems with 245/40 - 17 size tires????

Yesterday I ordered from Tirerack a new set of 245/40WR-17 Bridgestone Potenza RE-01Rs for my 2003 Evo (stock rims). Today I have a voice mail from them saying that non-stock size tires "can cause issues with the braking system and 4WD system"... I am still trying to get in touch with the rep that left me this message, but has anyone heard of anything along these lines???

My assumption was that the only impact will be a slightly off speedometer since the 245/40s have a diameter that is shorter than stock by about 5/10ths of an inch...

Neal, since you are the guy at Tirerack that deals with EVOs all the time, can you comment?

Thanks,
DG

a lot of ppl run this tire size and is the size i'm looking to upgrade to. There are even a handfull running 255's on the stock 8 inch wheel but with side effects. 245's are the widest you want to run without rubbing issues.

Trust me..there is no problem running them. I, along with several others I know, have done a bunch of autox'ing/roadcourse racing and driving on the road with 245/40/17 Advan AO32R's and Hoosiers with no issues.
255's also work fine.

yeah, its probably just corporate cya (cover yo a$$) just in case something goes wrong and you decide to sue.

I researched the ever loving begeezus out of this issue. It seems plenty of people are running 255's on stock rims w/out a problem for track applications.

I'm running 235/40's on stockers. I love the feel and I shaved quite a bit of time last time I went out.

i just ordered today a set of 245/40/17 from him. he says that it is a typical upgrade in width for the stock evo wheel. no problems according to him.

Should have ordered from me or mentioned my name on the order, I would have released it. Lots of EVO owners use that size w/out problems. It will work fine.
