Frequency of Suspension Tuning....

How many folks here, tune their suspension based on the condition?

I know there are alot of you guys who have 'tuned' suspensions, but how much do you guys tweak them based on whether you are Autox'ing or opentracking?

I like to tune my car specific to each track and keep notes on how I adjusted the weights/bite/ride height/camber/etc to provide maximum performance per track.

Am I the only guy this who does this?

I would if....

A: I was skilled enough of a driver to be consistent lap to lap. Then I could be sure that the changes I made to the car were in fact positive of negative, and I didn't just get lucky that lap.

B: There were opportunities to get more runs at an autox at each event, or that the course stayed the same throughout the season so the sample pool is larger.

I'm an amateur though, so what do I know?

robi has done this for all major california tracks. mueller has motec data from all major california tracks. gerrard has damper data and other aero data etc etc from the tracks he's tested his products at.

kinda gives you a good idea of who you should buy from.

It is fun adjusting suspensions. I just started with a new set of coilovers, checking tire pressures and temps across the tire.

One thing that I would like an answer on, the car felt really good last track day, but the tire temps suggest the rear is not working hard enough, ie thirty degrees cooler than the fronts. So maybe a harder bar or more bump, but since the car felt so good I wonder if heavy braking had more to do with front tire temps than hard corners?

As usual I changed to many things, quaife and suspension together, to know just exactly what caused the better day.

under what circumstances would you change ride height for a different track?

4/24
discussed the difference in tire temps (front to back) with my suspension guru, he indicated that with as much front end weight as the evo has it may not be abnormal.

Well, unfortunately, not all of us drive like Robi, so you definitely get in the ball park, but I don't think you will get 100% of the car, unless you have the knowledge to continue to build on the foundation Mueller and Robi build.

Granted, 95% of the folks on this board don't have the knowledge to get the foundation, so you get a huge head-start by going the pre-setup route.

suspension tuning

I think many of us with modifed suspensions that use our cars for daily drivers find the set up that will live on the street and gives a neutral handling on the track and just leave it. Why do you ask?
