Wheel Questions ...Lots Of Them
Ok I've been searching low and high for a set of wheels that I want to buy for track use and have came up with the size that I want.... so now its down to offsets and what rims ... after a lot of research I decided on a 18x9.5 size rim. Its what a lot of the JDM guys seem to run in the Hyper Rev mags and even seems to be what a lot of the US guys run (like Nils). I know some people will say to go with a 17x9.5 for the weight savings but I personally like the siffer side wall of a lower profile tire so that one of the reasons I want to go with the 18" ...
Now here are my questions
1) Anyone know the weight on the Works Emotion CR 18x9.5 ? .... I heard its about 22lbs ... can any one let me know if this is correct.
2) I was thinking of running staggered offsets like the JDM guys do. The Emotion CRs in 18x9.5 come in the following offsets: +38 +30 +20 +12 ... What would you guys reccomend for the offsets if I'm going with the Garage HRS +20mm wider front fenders? I was thinkin +12 in the front and +30 or +38 rear?
3) Anyone else know of in expensive light wheels? I know this is like asking for a fast but cheap car ... but I have already been looking at Enkei NT03s and RPF1 (about 21lbs) .. how ever them seem to only be available in one or two offsets for the 18x9.5 ... I know they are a little lighter then the Works too, as this is a debate among my self weather or not the staggered offset is worth the extra 1-1.5 pounds per wheel. I also looked at the 5 Zigen FNO1R-C .... but these are even hevier then the Works 22-24lbs

the emotion cr is not a "lip" style wheel... it is a spoke on the rim style. that means you actually don't need to run crazy offest, read no brake interference issues, only control arm rubbing ones.
that said you'll likely want to run +20 to fill those fenders. remember the tire is more important than the wheel.
for the rear you will want something on teh order of +35-+30 if you're running 275 and beyond. if you're not then you can run +38 in the rear and you likely won't run into the control arm.
final word... i don't like work wheels. they're too expensive and too heavy. but you like these so more power to you. i'd guess those wheels are more on the order of 24 pounds. but they come in every size you can dream up and if not they WILL make it in any size you dream up.

just to let you know. I just got in a set of works emotion cr's in 18x8.5. I threw one of them on my bathroom scale and it weighed 27 pounds. I was pretty suprised on how heavy these things are. I would assume that the 18x9.5's will be closer to 30 pounds.

If I went with the Enkei what offset should I go? Nils runs the +40 with a space up front and runs 275s on them ... Evasive runs the +27 with a 10mm spacer up front and I believe 265s ... both using Nittos ...
I wanted to try 255/40/18 Advan A048s first and if I though I need more grip later on step it up to a 275 ... but I dont really ever see my self going bigger then 275.
Also another question that my be kind of stupid ... if I add the +20mm wider front fenders and I'm running +29 offset on my current volks, then to get the same size fit I could go as low as +9 (29mm - 20mm = 9mm)? or dose it not really work like that?

..... but there is no point when you can get wheels that weigh a lot less for less $

When i weighed my wheel i weighed it in the box i got it in. I figured that it would be an extra pound maximum....i was so wrong. I took the wheel out and weighed it by itself and it tipped the scale at 23.5 pounds.....much better than 27.5.
Hope you get to read this....cause my last post was totally wrong.

My 18x9.5 +35 FN01RC's are 22 lbs each. Tires are 285/30's. I get light polishing on the rear trailing arm from tire rub. I run a 10mm spacer up front to clear my coilover springs and only get light rubbing at full lock. If I were you I would look into these wheels and running a spacer up front, something like the KICS 15mm one. I've got one friend running this setup and it looks great and works very well too, also has the wide fenders. I don't get any front fender rub with the 285's and thats with -2.8 camber, less camber and you'll probably make contact. Note I also run relatively stiff springs at 12k frt and 14k rr.
The benefit of running a spacer up front instead of staggered offset wheels is that you can easily rotate your tires to any point on the car.

Last I checked SSR's and Buddy Clubs are very light. The Buddy Club, IIRC are quite cheap and weigh nothing.
Buddy Club P1 Racing QF: 18x9 +35 14.74lbs around $660
Okay, so not _that_ cheap, but darn light.
Their P1 racing II Plus is only $237 for an 18x8, but don't know weight. Perhaps TireRack can help.

Its If Im going to stay with the same offset I'll get the Enkei NTO3 for sure as they are only 19.4lbs each and are about $1,200 for the set of 4 ... its really hard to beat them.
Currently my spring rates are 12k F & 12K R ... so its kind of stiff but not too bad and im running -2.5 camber all the way around on my street 19s
