Brake Disc Question
My front left brake pad is worn out and it's leaving three groves on the disc... I won't be able to put in pads till next week as my mechanic is sick. I am not driving the car that hard anyways.. what kinda damage can this do to the disc?

well im no brake expert but it seems like if the old pads are putting grooves into the rotor...that it is warping. if you put on new pads the rotor wont fit right since it has taken shape of the old worn out pads.

Here's how my left Rotor Looks like now..
What do ya think? I believe something like sand went inbetween the worn out brake pad and the rotor last night while I was driving and all of a sudden it gave the squeaking noise... and this morning I noticed the 3 grooves.. I don't think it's warping as I don't drive this thing hard at all!..

i wouldnt drive it alot if its grinding cuase if it grinds down to far you will have to replace your rotor since they can only be machined to a certain thickness.

What's probably wrong is that yes, the pads are worn. However, more than likely, there is debris lodged in the pad, between it and the rotor. It can happen if little things get caught in there and sandwiched when you apply brake pressure. Sometimes, stuff will get ground into the pad, regardless of how small, and voila...you got yourself some cut up rotors. It happened with my brother's V6 Accord a while back...made an ugly squeek on the back left disc.

Claudius... I wouldn't even call 'em grooves as they are not that deep... more like scratches.. I just got excited as I hadn't seen that happen before.. I will replace the pads soon. Did u ever had any problems with disc warping in your TME? are you still running on stock brembo rotors?

I had just run the brakes and the car in when I let a friend of mine try it. I thought the brake pedal was spongy and asked him if he agreed. And that stupid **** pressed the pedal hard while standing with hot brakes!! so of course they were gone. 3000 km on the clock!
I then bought grooved and drilled CTF discs with separate aluminium bell and do not let other people drive my car. No problems, just normal wear. Using Pagid "black" pads, RS14 that withstand 800°C and get there. Cost around 700 USD without the pads. When the disc is worn out, you can just change the disc and keep the bell.
I never called your marks grooves, what are you on about? Just stop pressing that stone onto your disc!

I'm all for letting somebody else go through the minor hassle of changing brakes, but if you've got damage and your mechanic is sick, change or clean the damned things yourself!
